Thailand: eGates now open to 33 nationalities at Bangkok airport

Automated border control gates are now operational at Suvarnabhumi International Airport for eligible travelers. Four conditions must be met to use them, including prior travel to Thailand and entry under the visa exemption program.

Who can use Thailand's new eGates

Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates are now available at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Citizens of 33 countries and territories can use them, including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, most European Union nations, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. The United States is not currently included.

Four conditions required

Simply holding a passport from an eligible country is not enough. Travelers must meet all four conditions:

  • Be a citizen of one of the 33 eligible countries or territories
  • Have submitted the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival, which has been mandatory since May 2025
  • Have previously traveled to Thailand so biometric data is already on file. First-time visitors or those using a new passport may be directed to a staffed counter
  • Be entering Thailand under the 30-day visa exemption program. The eGates are currently configured only for visa-free entry. Visa holders, including those with a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), must use staffed immigration counters

What happens next

Thai authorities have not yet specified which long-stay visa categories might eventually gain access to the automated gates. The expansion was announced over the summer and officials said the rollout would be gradual depending on equipment availability and system readiness.
