Greece Schengen Visa from the UK - 2026 Quick Answer

If you live in the UK on a passport that needs a Schengen visa, such as an Indian, Nigerian, Pakistani or Filipino one, you need a visa for Greece. UK residence does not change that, even with indefinite leave to remain or an eVisa. British citizens on a full British citizen passport can visit visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, business meetings included.

  • Where: in person at a Global Visa Center World (GVCW) centre in London, Manchester or Edinburgh. GVCW, not VFS Global, handles Greek visas in the UK.
  • Who decides: the Consular Office of the Embassy of Greece in London.
  • When: up to six months and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before the trip.
  • Cost: EUR 90 visa fee plus a EUR 30 GVCW service fee (as of October 2026).
  • Time: up to 15 calendar days, longer for some nationalities and files, plus about 5 days outside London.

Preparation pays off with Greece. In the European Commission's 2025 statistics, Greece's London consulate did not issue a visa on 24.5% of decided applications, against a 10.5% average for Schengen consulates in the UK. Among Schengen states, only Spain and France received more applications in the UK.

Visarun is a visa agency. We help prepare and check the file. The decision belongs to the Greek Consular Office, and no agency can promise approval.

Who Applies at the Greek Consulate in London

Every Greek short-stay application lodged in the UK is assessed by the Consular Office (Visa Section) of the Embassy of Greece in London, usually called the Greek Consulate in London. GVCW centres only collect files and return passports, and play no part in the decision.

Greece also has a Consulate General in Manchester, but as far as the Embassy's archived pages show, short-stay visas are not lodged there. For visas, Edinburgh has only the GVCW centre.

  • UK status: your permission typically needs to run at least one month (30 days) beyond the end of the trip, or the file cannot be processed.
  • UK visitor visa holders: a UK "C type" visit visa is not accepted, so these travellers apply from their country of residence.
  • Main destination: Greece is the right country if you spend more days there than in any other Schengen state, or, with equal stays, if you enter the Schengen area through Greece.
  • Refugee travel documents: holders of UK 1951 and 1954 Convention travel documents and the Certificate of Travel also need a visa for Greece.

Appointments and Visa Centres

Every applicant, children included, attends in person on a date booked online, and everyone aged 12 or over gives fingerprints. Both parents are expected at a minor's appointment unless one alone holds parental authority.

As of October 2026 there are three centres and no Birmingham option:

  • London: submissions 09:00-13:00, passport collection 16:00-17:00, Monday to Friday.
  • Manchester: submissions 09:00-14:00, Monday to Friday, passport return by courier only.
  • Edinburgh: submissions 09:00-14:00, Monday to Friday, passport return by courier only.

As a rule, applicants use the centre that matches their residence address. GVCW publishes no regional map.

The service fee is paid online by Visa or Mastercard to confirm the slot. The platform is for individuals and families only, and Visarun does not book, buy or speed up appointments.

Capacity is the real limit. The consulate sets the number of appointments each month, and GVCW cannot add more. In May 2026 every UK slot for that month was taken. Easter, May to August and Christmas fill fastest.

GVCW aims to find a timely slot if you contact it at least three weeks before departure, but guarantees nothing. We found no published waiting time for autumn 2026, so we recommend booking once your dates and documents are ready.

Documents Checklist for UK Residents

Per GVCW's March 2026 checklist and web pages (October 2026), applicants hand in originals plus one copy, as a rule none older than one month.

  • Application form, one per person.
  • Passport: signed, valid three months beyond your last day in the Schengen area, two adjacent blank pages, issued within the last 10 years, plus copies of the bio page and of Schengen visas from the last three years.
  • Two colour photos, 3.5 x 4 cm, white or off-white background, no older than six months.
  • A copy of your UK eVisa and a share code "for visa purposes". A share code lasts 90 days.
  • Your own UK personal current-account statements for three months (the salary account), with a closing balance no older than 30 days and at least GBP 40 per day of stay. Only immediate family can sponsor each other.
  • An HR letter with company stamp and original signature, addressed to the Mission, stating your start date and position, plus your last three payslips. GVCW's documents differ on the letter's maximum age, so we recommend one dated within a month. Self-employed applicants add their last tax return and an accountant's letter or Companies House certificate.
  • Fully paid return flights in your name, with a receipt showing no outstanding balance, as a PDF with the PNR (screenshots are not accepted). Agency tickets count only from agencies based in Europe.
  • A confirmed hotel reservation with your name, dates and hotel contacts, for every Schengen country on the trip.
  • Travel medical insurance valid in all Schengen states for the whole stay, with at least EUR 30,000 cover. Cover through a bank account needs a letter from the bank.

The paid-flight rule puts the fare at risk if the visa is refused. According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, one UK-based couple worried that their airline itinerary did not say the tickets were paid. That proof is exactly what the checklist asks for.

Children and EU family members

For under-18s, the March 2026 checklist asks for a full birth certificate, both parents' passports and a consent form signed by both parents, certified by the Embassy of Greece and no older than 30 days. For a child on a business-category file, we recommend confirming the consent wording with GVCW.

Since GVCW's August 2026 notice, family members of an EU or Greek citizen need an apostilled marriage certificate if the marriage is not registered in Greece or the EU citizen's home country.

Business Visa Paperwork

A business visa covers meetings, deals, recruiting, training and similar work-related activity, not employment. Every business application needs an invitation letter from a company based in Greece. Without one, GVCW says, you apply as a tourist.

The letter goes on the Greek company's letterhead, stamped and signed, and states:

  • the company's full address and contact details
  • the name and position of the person signing
  • the purpose and duration of the trip
  • your identity as the invited applicant
  • the hotel's address, contacts and length of stay, if the company books it

The checklist also asks for proof of trade or work relations, or registration for fairs and congresses. GVCW suggests attaching proof of the business purpose already when booking.

When your employer pays

Company funding does not replace personal paperwork. The business checklist still asks for your own three months of salary-account statements with at least GBP 40 per day, an HR letter with three payslips, and fully paid return flights with a receipt showing no outstanding balance.

According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, corporate travel bookings are a weak spot. One London applicant, three days before the appointment, had an agent's confirmation and a ticket number but nothing stating the flight was paid. We recommend asking the agent early for a payment confirmation with no outstanding balance.

Fees and Service Charges

Fees as of October 2026, which GVCW says may change at any time:

  • Visa fee: EUR 90. GVCW's table showed GBP 79.20 in October 2026, and the pound amount follows the exchange rate on the day you submit.
  • Children under 12: no visa fee, as Greece uses the optional waiver in Article 16(5)(a) of the Visa Code. The service fee still applies.
  • GVCW service fee: EUR 30 including VAT, converted at the ECB's daily rate (GBP 25.50 in September 2024), paid online when you confirm the slot. EU rules cap it at EUR 45.
  • Optional extras: courier return GBP 21 (within 3 days) or GBP 25 (next day), courier assurance GBP 5, Premium Passback in London GBP 25, Premium Lounge GBP 75.

Fees are charged only in pounds, so we recommend bringing a UK bank card. GVCW states that the Premium Lounge brings neither a visa guarantee nor faster processing.

The visa fee is not refunded after a refusal. It comes back only if the file is ruled inadmissible, for example lodged outside the allowed period, and returned unexamined.

Processing Time and Passport Return

As of October 2026, GVCW gives up to 15 calendar days. Certain nationalities that need consultation with other Schengen states wait at least three weeks. GVCW links that list on its pages, and we could not confirm it. Some files take up to 45 days, in line with the Visa Code. Manchester and Edinburgh files need about 5 extra days, as they travel via London.

GVCW also carries a standing warning, first seen in 2023, that very high demand for Greece may push processing past 15 days. That is GVCW's advice, not a measured 2026 delay. An interview in London or a request for more documents can add time.

  • London: collect 16:00-17:00 on weekdays without an appointment, or pay for a courier.
  • Manchester and Edinburgh: DX courier only, at an extra fee.

Tracking works with the application ID from your receipt and your passport number. On return, we recommend checking the name, dates and entries on the visa.

According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, one Manchester applicant got a delivery notice but never received the passport, and DX said it never had the package. It is one unverified case, but courier assurance exists for this kind of loss.

Separately, according to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, a couple's London file came back closed for procedural reasons, not refused, with the fee to be refunded. One possible explanation is the inadmissibility rule in Article 19(3) of the Visa Code.

Christmas 2026 timing

London and Manchester close on 25 and 26 December 2026, Edinburgh on 30 November, 25 December and 28 December. Greek public holidays can add days too.

Our calculation for a 20 December departure from Manchester or Edinburgh: 15 days back gives 5 December, the extra 5 days give 30 November, and up to 3 courier days give about 27 November. That is the latest sensible date to lodge, and three-week nationalities are better off going earlier.

Recent Changes (2025-2026)

  • August 2026: apostilled marriage certificate for family members of EU or Greek citizens whose marriage is not registered in Greece or the EU citizen's country.
  • May 2026: all May appointments booked out, with the monthly quota confirmed as set by the consulate.
  • 10 April 2026: the EU Entry/Exit System became fully operational. Fingerprints and a facial image are taken at the border instead of passport stamps, with nothing to do in advance.
  • March 2026: new tourism checklist, with parental consent certified by the Embassy of Greece.
  • November 2025: GVCW confirmed its three centres in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.
  • 31 December 2025: a single-performance exemption for UK-passport artists was due to end. We could not confirm an extension, so British artists would do well to check with the Consular Office.
  • March 2025: a UK eVisa copy and share code replaced the BRP. All BRPs have now expired.

ETIAS covers visa-exempt travellers such as British citizens, not Schengen visa holders. Its start date was still unconfirmed when we checked in October 2026.

EC data for 2025 show 36,089 applications and 8,814 not issued, 24.5% of the 35,985 decided files, against 14.5% for Greece worldwide. Among UK posts with 5,000+ applications, only Iceland (32.0%) and Denmark (31.5%) were higher. The rate covers all nationalities and includes closed files.

What happens if my Greek visa is refused?

The fee is not refunded. The refusal form lists the reasons and explains how to appeal, and you can reapply once those reasons are addressed.

Can Visarun speed up my appointment or decision?

No. Visarun helps prepare and check your documents. Paid extras do not speed up decisions, and the outcome belongs to the Greek Consular Office in London.
