Can UAE Residents Get a Kuwait or Bahrain Visa Online? (2026 Quick Answer)

Yes, both have an online route for UAE residents, with different rules. Check your passport first: GCC citizens need no visa for Bahrain, and some passports qualify for Kuwait on nationality alone. Rules checked in October 2026.

Bahrain in short

  • Route: an eVisa on evisa.gov.bh for holders of a valid GCC residence permit.
  • Types listed by NPRA, Bahrain's immigration authority: two weeks single entry, three months multiple entry, one year multiple entry.
  • Residence permit with at least 3 months left; passport valid for more than 6 months.
  • The application is submitted from outside Bahrain.
  • Fees: NPRA lists 5 BHD to apply plus 5, 12 or 40 BHD for issuance, though Bahrain's national portal shows a different amount for one tier; the eVisa site confirms the total at payment.
  • Timing: plan for about a week.

Kuwait in short

  • Route: an online tourist e-visa on kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw, whose text file (updated 23 September 2026) still lists eligible professions for GCC residents.
  • Fee: 3 KWD for most nationalities; it depends on your passport.
  • Processing: typically 1-2 business days.
  • Single entry, used within one month of issue, stay of up to 90 days.
  • Passport and GCC residence each valid at least 6 months from the day you enter.
  • Visa on arrival: since 10 August 2025, according to a ministerial decision reported by Gulf News and Kuwait Times, GCC residents with residence valid 6+ months can get one at the port of entry; the official text was not available to us.

Both countries keep the final word at the border. Visarun helps UAE residents prepare and check applications; the decision stays with the Bahraini and Kuwaiti authorities.

Bahrain eVisa for GCC Residents - Eligibility and Residence Validity

Bahrain's national portal states that all visitors need a visa except GCC citizens, so a UAE residence permit opens a paid eVisa route rather than an exemption. The eVisa site first asks about a valid GCC residence permit; answering yes and selecting the United Arab Emirates leads to the GCC-resident visa types.

What NPRA asks for

  • A copy of a passport valid for more than 6 months.
  • A clear copy of the GCC residence permit with at least 3 months of validity left.
  • Submission while the applicant is outside Bahrain.

NPRA's wording mentions a "valid return visa". UAE residence visas are no longer stamped, so in practice applicants upload the UAE residence visa or Emirates ID showing 3+ months left. That is our reading, not an NPRA statement. We suggest extra margin covering the whole trip.

According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, a Saudi resident on a dependent iqama, used to getting a visa on arrival at Bahrain airport, found the eVisa asking for at least 3 more months of iqama validity and a hotel booking. A visa on arrival is not a reliable fallback.

Bahrain Fees, Processing and Entry by Air or the Causeway

NPRA lists these fees as of October 2026:

  • Two weeks, single entry: 5 BHD application plus 5 BHD issuance, 10 BHD in total.
  • Three months, multiple entry: 5 plus 12 BHD, 17 BHD in total.
  • One year, multiple entry: 5 plus 40 BHD, 45 BHD in total.

Official sources do not fully agree: the national portal bahrain.bh shows 29 BD for the three-month visa. The eVisa site shows the exact amount at payment. The application fee is non-refundable and paid on submission; the visa fee is paid only after approval.

Processing and validity

NPRA quotes one working day for issuance, while the eVisa FAQ says about 3-5 working days, longer in exceptional cases. We recommend applying at least a week before travel. An unused visa expires three months after issue. NPRA publishes no per-visit stay limit for the multiple-entry tiers, so the conditions printed on your visa apply.

Visa on arrival

Bahrain publishes no visa-on-arrival rule for GCC residents. Its FAQ points to the eligibility checker on the eVisa homepage, and the immigration officer decides at the border.

Driving across the King Fahd Causeway

By road, Bahrain is reached through Saudi Arabia, so a Saudi visa is needed for the transit. Based on the KSA Visa platform's terms as checked in September 2026, GCC residents are among those eligible for the Saudi tourism e-visa online; our Saudi visit visa guide for UAE residents covers fees.

  • Dubai RTA says residents driving a Dubai-registered car to any GCC country need an NOC from the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE and an RTA Tourism Certificate.
  • The certificate is valid for 6 months and costs AED 120 for a light vehicle (AED 100 plus AED 20).
  • If someone other than the owner drives, driver and owner attend in person; a mortgaged car needs a bank NOC or an electronic mortgage release.
  • Cars registered in other emirates go through their own licensing authority.
  • Bahrain vehicle insurance can be bought in the King Fahd Causeway Authority's Jesr app before the trip.

We found no official document checklist for non-GCC residents crossing the causeway, and no published toll or insurance prices.

Kuwait eVisa for GCC Residents - Eligible Nationalities and Professions

Check the passport route first

Kuwait's portal says nationals of eligible countries can get the visa online or on arrival at Kuwait International Airport without the GCC-resident route. Its list is mostly European, North American and East Asian, including the UK, the USA and Japan, but the page appears cut off, so treat it as incomplete.

Nationality screening

For everyone else, the online e-visa screens both nationality and occupation. The portal only offers the nationalities it accepts; if yours is not offered or is marked not eligible, it directs you to a Kuwaiti embassy. The full list is not published.

According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, an Egyptian living in Qatar could not find Egypt in the nationality drop-down. That is one report, not a rule: the portal's fee table still lists a 9 KWD rate for Egypt.

The official profession list

The portal's text file (23 September 2026) lists these eligible professions for GCC residents:

  • doctors and pharmacists
  • lawyers, judges and prosecutors
  • engineers and consultants
  • university professors
  • journalists and media professionals
  • pilots
  • systems analysts and computer programmers
  • managers and businessmen
  • members of the diplomatic corps
  • owners, managers and representatives of companies and commercial institutions

The portal asks for a residency copy "clearly indicating the profession". For UAE residents, we take that to mean the occupation on the residence visa or Emirates ID; the portal does not spell this out. If it does not match, the form can stop the application on occupation grounds.

The August 2025 on-arrival rule

According to the ministerial decision reported in August 2025, published in the gazette Kuwait Alyoum, any foreign resident of a GCC state with residence valid at least six months can receive a tourist visa at the port of entry. Kuwait Times reported that it cancelled a 2008 rule limiting visa on arrival to certain professions.

We found no official fee, document list or entry-point list for this route, and the online profession screen is still live. On arrival, the officer decides.

Kuwait Fees, Processing and Arrival Checks

  • Fee: 3 KWD for most nationalities as of October 2026; some passports are exempt or pay more, as the portal's fee table shows.
  • Fees are non-refundable once the visa is issued; the portal shows when payment is taken.
  • Processing: typically 1-2 business days.
  • One entry, used within one month of issue.
  • Stay: up to 90 days from entry; the period printed on your visa applies.

Applications go through the official website only, from a registered account, and applicants track the status themselves. We found no official confirmation that GCC residents can choose a multiple-entry option.

The portal states that Kuwaiti authorities can reject or cancel an application or visa at any time, even after issue, without giving reasons. Overstaying costs 10 KWD per day and may lead to a re-entry ban.

Driving to Kuwait also means crossing Saudi Arabia on a Saudi visa. We found no official Kuwaiti vehicle-entry rules for the Saudi-Kuwait crossings.

Documents and Common Reasons for Refusal

Bahrain

  • Passport copy, valid more than 6 months.
  • UAE residence permit copy with 3+ months left.
  • A hotel booking, a return ticket and a three-month bank statement: not on NPRA's list, but bahrain.bh asks for them for the three-month visa, showing 300-500 BD monthly income or 150 BD per day of the visit.

The eVisa is not stamped in advance: travellers print it and enter on the same passport used to apply.

Kuwait

  • Passport copy and GCC residency copy showing the profession, front and back in one image.
  • Residence type, classification, number and expiry date, plus an annual income band from under $20,000 to over $100,000.
  • Confirmed ticket, hotel reservation and a recent face photo.

Common reasons for refusal

  • Residence validity too short: under 3 months for Bahrain, under 6 months from entry for Kuwait.
  • Passport valid for less than 6 months.
  • Applying for Bahrain from inside Bahrain.
  • A typo in a Bahrain application, editable only at NPRA's request.
  • Nationality or occupation not accepted by the Kuwait portal.
  • A different passport at the Bahrain border from the one in the application.
  • Missing hotel booking, ticket or proof of funds.

In Bahrain, paying the application fee does not mean approval, and if entry is refused at the border no part of the fee is refunded.

Recent Changes (2025-2026)

  • August 2025: Kuwait's reported decision opened on-arrival tourist visas to GCC residents with residence valid 6+ months.
  • September 2026: Kuwait's portal text still lists eligible professions for the online e-visa.
  • Bahrain: NPRA now quotes a 5 BHD application fee where older guides say BD4, and payment is split into two steps.
  • 16 February 2026: Bahrain and the UAE launched One Stop pre-clearance between Bahrain International Airport and Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport (MoU signed August 2026). The first phase was reported to cover GCC citizens on Gulf Air and Etihad flights, not expatriate residents.
  • GCC unified tourist visa: still a project. GCC Secretary-General Albudaiwi said on 6 September 2026 that it would launch soon, without a date, and GCC passport chiefs discussed its latest developments on 30 September.

The UK Foreign Office's advice for Kuwait and Bahrain, updated in August and October 2026, warns of possible flight cancellations and short-notice airspace closures; we suggest checking travel advice and your airline before a short trip.

FAQ

Do UAE residents need a visa for Bahrain?

GCC citizens do not. Other UAE residents usually apply for the GCC-resident eVisa.

Can I get a Bahrain visa on arrival as a UAE resident?

No published rule covers residents; some passports qualify by nationality. The eligibility checker shows options; the officer decides.

Can I fix a mistake in my Bahrain eVisa application?

Only after an NPRA correction email, within 7 days via Visa Data Correction. Otherwise the applicant requests cancellation from the registered email, quoting the reference number, and reapplies once notified.

Can a Bahrain eVisa be extended?

NPRA says extensions are filed at a service centre for a fee. Its pages differ on how long an extension covers, so we recommend confirming with NPRA first.

My job is not on Kuwait's profession list. What are my options?

The online form may direct you to a Kuwaiti embassy. The August 2025 on-arrival rule reportedly removed the profession limit at the port of entry, but approval stays with the officer.

What happens if I overstay in Kuwait?

The portal lists a fine of 10 KWD per day and a possible re-entry ban.

Do I need a Saudi visa to drive to Bahrain or Kuwait?

Yes. Both road routes from the UAE cross Saudi Arabia, so a Saudi visa is needed as well.

Is the GCC unified tourist visa available yet?

Not as of October 2026; no launch date, fee or eligibility rules have been published.
