Do Indians Need a Visa for Mauritius? (2026 Quick Answer)
No. The official country list of the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) in Port Louis places India in the "No visa required" category. Indian passport holders apply for no visa before the trip and pay no visa fee. The free All-in-One Travel Form is still mandatory before boarding.
Entry is still not automatic. The immigration officer at the airport makes the final decision to admit each visitor and decides how long that person can stay.
India's Ministry of External Affairs uses a different label. Its list, based on information as on 2 February 2026, puts Mauritius among countries offering a "visa on arrival facility" to Indians and asks travellers to cross-check with the embassy. The practical result is the same: no pre-application, no fee, permission given at the border. This guide follows the Mauritian wording.
The rules below were checked against official Mauritian sources in October 2026. They can change at short notice, so a final check before departure is worth the time.
How Long Indians Can Stay and Extensions
There is no fixed number of days for Indian tourists in the official rules. The officer stamps the permitted period on arrival, after checking documents such as your return ticket and hotel booking.
The ceiling for tourists is six months in a calendar year, granted case by case and subject to immigration requirements. It is a maximum, not the period every visitor receives.
Some travel sites quote 60 or 90 days for Indians. Neither figure appears for India in the PIO list. Its "visa for sixty days on arrival" label is a separate category for other nationalities, such as Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan. The date that counts is the one on your stamp.
Overstaying is an offence under Mauritian law and can lead to prosecution. If plans change, we recommend applying for an extension well before the stamped date.
How to extend your stay
Applicants go in person to the PIO Visa Section in Port Louis. The extension is free. The PIO asks for:
- A signed extension application form
- Copies of the passport bio-data page and the arrival stamp page
- A ticket reservation, with a confirmed ticket once approved
- Bank statements for the last three months
- A confirmed accommodation booking
A local sponsor adds a sponsorship letter, ID, a utility bill, a lease where relevant and three months of bank statements. Business visitors add a letter from the local company.
The PIO publishes no processing time for an extension, and the six-month yearly ceiling still applies, so applying early is the safer approach.
Staying longer than six months
For long stays the PIO offers the Premium Visa: one year, renewable and free of cost. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) marketing page, last modified in May 2025, gives a similar threshold of 180 days in a calendar year.
Documents Checked on Arrival
Under the PIO's entry conditions, every visitor needs:
- A passport valid beyond the intended period of stay
- A valid return ticket to India or the country of residence
- The right to re-enter that country
- Adequate funds for the stay
- A confirmed hotel booking or accommodation sponsorship
Visitors cannot take up paid activity without a valid residence permit.
The official passport rule is validity beyond your stay. Airlines and transit hubs may check more strictly, so a comfortable margin of validity is wise.
No minimum amount of money is set for tourists. Recent bank statements or an international card, plus your hotel confirmation, help if the officer asks.
Visarun can help you prepare and check these documents before you fly. The decision on entry and length of stay rests with Mauritian immigration.
Customs declaration
The airport uses red and green customs channels. The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) requires a declaration for restricted or commercial goods and anything above the duty-free allowance.
Cash, cheques, gold, jewellery and other valuables worth over Rs 500,000 in Mauritian rupees are declared on arrival. On departure, the same threshold means filling in a Currency Declaration Form at the customs counter before immigration.
All-in-One Travel Form and Arrival Process
Every traveller completes the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Digital Form before flying. It is hosted on safemauritius.govmu.org, the portal of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the government charges no fee for it.
The form became mandatory for all passengers before boarding under the Cabinet decision of 5 June 2026 and the Quarantine (Health Declaration Form) Regulations 2026. Sea arrivals use a Health Declaration Form instead.
The portal states that proof of completion will be required at boarding. Refusing to fill it in or knowingly giving false information can bring a fine of up to MUR 500,000 and up to five years in prison.
When and how to fill it in
The form accepts arrival dates up to 15 days ahead. It asks for:
- Flight details, purpose and proposed length of stay
- Countries visited in the last six months
- Passport details and your address in Mauritius
- An emergency contact
- A health-symptoms check and a final declaration
According to MTPA guidance from February 2026, the completed form produces a PDF with a QR code worth printing for health officials at the airport. A paper copy plus one on your phone covers boarding and arrival.
Some websites offer to fill in the form for a fee. The MTPA travel advice page (February 2026) says such paid third parties are not endorsed by the MTPA or the Mauritian authorities. The official form is completed only on the Ministry of Health portal, free of charge.
At the immigration desk, it helps to have the passport, return ticket and hotel booking handy. We suggest checking the date on your stamp before walking away.
Business Trips and Other Purposes
The PIO list shows India as "No visa required" without separating trips by purpose. For business visits the PIO allows up to 120 days in a calendar year, no more than 90 days per trip, with no pay received in Mauritius. That 90-day cap is for business only.
The PIO visa checklist, written for nationalities that need a visa, asks business applicants for a letter from the local company. Indians do not apply, but carrying an invitation letter from your Mauritian contact is sensible.
Paid work needs a valid entry residence permit before travel. One route is an Occupation Permit, a combined work and residence permit, applied for through the Economic Development Board (EDB):
- Investor or Self-Employed, for up to ten years
- Professional, for up to three years or the contract length
All categories are renewable.
Honeymoons, weddings and other trips
- Honeymoon: married couples on holiday need nothing extra.
- Wedding: couples marrying in Mauritius need to meet Section 24A of the Civil Status Act, so contacting the civil status office early helps.
- Study: the PIO advises travelling only after the study application is approved.
- Religious activities: a social visa, for up to 45 days, is needed before travel.
- Medical treatment: a medical visa is granted on arrival for up to six months.
Travelling via Dubai or Another Hub
An MTPA marketing page from May 2025 lists direct flights to Mauritius from India, the UAE, Europe, South Africa, Malaysia and Australia. Connecting in Dubai is another option.
According to the UAE government portal (updated 28 July 2026), you only need a UAE transit visa if you plan to leave the airport and are not eligible for visa on arrival or visa-free entry. It is pre-arranged, valid for 48 or 96 hours, single-entry and cannot be extended.
India's Ministry of External Affairs, in its compilation as on 2 February 2026, says Indians get UAE visa on arrival with a valid US, UK, EU/Schengen, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore or South Korea visa or residence permit and a passport valid for at least six months on entry. UAE rules change, so we recommend confirming with your airline.
The All-in-One form applies on any route, and proof is needed for the connecting flight into Mauritius as well.
Routes through Africa
Since June 2026 Mauritius has applied Ebola-related entry measures. On 4 September 2026 the quarantine period was extended to 7 December 2026, and the quarantine requirements now cover only travellers who were in or transited through the DR Congo or South Sudan in the previous 21 days. In June, most foreign nationals recently in these countries or Uganda were also barred from entry. If your route touches any of them, we recommend checking the rules shortly before departure.
Recent Changes (2025-2026)
- Tourist Fee: since 1 October 2025, tourists aged 12 and over pay 3 euros per night in hotels, guesthouses and other tourist accommodation on the island of Mauritius, collected by the property, according to the MRA. Premium Visa and residence-permit holders are exempt.
- Arrival form: the All-in-One Travel Form has been mandatory before boarding since June 2026.
- Health measures: Ebola-related restrictions since June 2026, with quarantine narrowed in September to the DR Congo and South Sudan.
- Planned ETA: the 2026-27 Budget of 19 June 2026 announced an online Electronic Travel Authorisation, called an E-Visa in the Budget Speech, with a fee. As of October 2026 there is no launch date, fee amount or portal.
