Do Indians Need a Visa for Qatar? (2026 Quick Answer)
For a short trip, no visa is needed in advance. As of October 2026, Qatar's Ministry of Interior (MoI) grants Indian passport holders a free on-arrival tourist visa for up to 30 days, or for the length of their hotel reservation. Qatar Tourism now calls this visa-free entry.
The conditions matter more than the visa itself. The MoI lists four: a passport valid for at least three months, a confirmed round-trip ticket, a hotel booked through discoverqatar.qa only, and health insurance from an accredited insurer.
Travellers who want another hotel site or a stay with relatives can apply for a Hayya e-visa on hayya.qa. For Indian nationals, Hayya shows three tourist options:
- A1 Tourist Visa: QAR 100 paid on final approval, which Hayya says can be waived under certain conditions
- A2 GCC Resident Visa: for Indians living in a Gulf country, QAR 100
- A3 Visa with ETA: for holders of a valid US, UK, Canadian, Schengen, Australian or New Zealand visa or residence permit, QAR 100
All three are single entry and non-refundable. Rules change often, so we recommend checking the MoI and Hayya pages again shortly before you fly.
Visa-Free Entry for Indians - Conditions at the Border
The MoI page for Indian, Pakistani and Thai nationals describes a free on-arrival tourist visa for a maximum of 30 days, or according to the hotel reservation.
As of October 2026, the MoI lists these conditions for Indian travellers:
- A passport valid for at least three months
- A confirmed round-trip ticket
- A confirmed hotel reservation made through discoverqatar.qa only, as bookings from other sites are not accepted
- Health insurance from an accredited insurance company
The MoI's visa portal adds that the insurer needs to be registered with the Ministry of Public Health. Qatar Tourism says a policy can be bought on arrival.
Extensions are unclear. The MoI lists visa-free entry for Indians as a maximum of 30 days and does not describe it as extendable, although it calls some other categories extendable. The extension process Qatar does describe applies to Hayya e-visas, handled in person at the Directorate of Passport at Hamad International Airport.
Why the advice on Discover Qatar conflicts
Qatar Tourism's visa checker on visitqatar.com, last updated in August 2026, appears to ask Indian travellers only for a passport valid three months from arrival and a confirmed hotel booking. It does not mention Discover Qatar for India. The MoI, which issues the rule, still says Discover Qatar only.
We recommend booking through Discover Qatar for visa-free entry. The checker's shorter wording is a reason for caution, not permission to book elsewhere.
Hayya A3 e-Visa for Holders of Western Visas and Residence Permits
A3, which Hayya calls Visa with ETA, is for travellers who already hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, the UK, Canada, the Schengen area, Australia or New Zealand. Hayya's country tool lists it for Indian nationals.
Why pay QAR 100 when visa-free entry is free? Mostly for flexibility on accommodation. Hayya lets Indian e-visa applicants book on any platform or stay with a host registered on Hayya.
Requirements listed by Hayya as of October 2026:
- A valid visa or residence permit from one of those six at the time of application
- A passport with three months of validity from the date of arrival in Qatar
- A return flight ticket
- A fee of QAR 100, paid only after final approval
The qualifying visa or residence needs to still be valid when the e-visa is issued, not only on the day you apply. We recommend applying well before a qualifying visa runs out.
A3 is single entry, can be used once, and is non-refundable and non-transferable. Hayya does not state the A3 stay length in its A3 FAQ. Its business FAQ lists tourist e-visas as single entry with 30 days validity, so we suggest reading the last entry date and permitted stay printed on the e-visa itself.
Gulf residence does not count for A3, so Gulf-based Indians without a qualifying Western visa use A2.
GCC Residents and Hayya A2
Indians flying to Doha from elsewhere in the Gulf have three ways in as of October 2026:
- Visa-free entry on the Indian passport, under the same MoI conditions, including the Discover Qatar hotel
- The Hayya A2 GCC Resident Visa, applied for online
- The MoI on-arrival visa for GCC residents: QR 100 for 30 days, extendable, open only to residents whose profession is one of 206 approved professions
A2 is for holders of a valid GCC residence permit travelling to Qatar from their country of residence. The checklist covers:
- A passport valid at least three months from arrival
- A GCC ID copy valid at least three months from arrival, showing profession and expiry date
- A return flight ticket, needed at check-in for those travelling by air
- A QAR 100 fee, paid after final approval
On residence validity, Hayya's FAQ gives three months, counted from the application date in one answer and from arrival in another, while a message in the hayya.qa interface mentions six. We recommend counting from arrival and applying with six months left on the permit if you can.
A2 is single entry with a 30-day stay and is non-refundable. The job title on the form needs to match the residence permit exactly, and if it is not listed, Hayya says to select "others" and type it in. Our separate guide for GCC residents covers these routes in more detail.
How to Apply on the Hayya Platform
All three tourist e-visas run through hayya.qa or the Hayya app. Hayya revised its A1 and A3 how-to guides in May 2026. The A3 guide lists four uploads:
- A recent personal photo
- A scanned passport copy
- Accommodation details: a hotel booking or a host under the Host Family and Friends option
- A copy of the qualifying visa or residence card
For A1, Hayya asks for a passport valid three months from arrival, proof of accommodation and a return flight ticket.
After submission the status shows Pending while the authorities review the file. Hayya's guides say processing time may vary and give no number of days.
Payment comes after approval. Once the status changes to Pending Payment, there are 14 days to pay the QAR 100 fee before the application is cancelled. The fee is non-refundable whatever happens to the trip.
Hayya says some A1 applicants may be exempted from accommodation proof and others asked to book through Discover Qatar, without saying who. For Indian applicants, its FAQ accepts any platform or a registered host.
Visarun helps travellers prepare and check their Hayya documents. Decisions belong to the Qatari authorities, so we cannot promise approval or faster processing.
Pending Applications and Event Season in Doha
A pending Hayya application does not let you travel. Only full approval produces a single-entry e-visa, sent to the registered email address. Without it, entry into Qatar is refused.
Hayya advises booking flights only after approval. Losses from travelling before the e-visa is issued are the applicant's own responsibility, so refundable fares make sense while you wait.
The rules for the waiting period, per the Hayya FAQ as of October 2026:
- A second application cannot be started while the first is Pending.
- Pending Payment: pay within 14 days or the application is cancelled.
- Pending Accommodation Confirmation: send accommodation details within 30 days of the notification email, or the application is cancelled.
- Rejection: the reason normally appears on the dashboard, though not always. Approval and rejection are at the authorities' discretion.
For stuck cases, Hayya support answers on 2022 from inside Qatar, on +974 4441 2022 from abroad, and by the email listed on hayya.qa. We found no other official escalation route.
Formula 1 weekend and other events
The Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix is scheduled for 27 to 29 November 2026, according to the official F1 calendar.
According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, some tourist Hayya applications filed for the race were still Pending, and another post described one pending since 19 August 2026. These are individual cases, not typical waits.
Most Indian fans have a simpler option. Without a qualifying Western visa, an Indian passport holder can still enter visa-free with a Discover Qatar hotel and the other MoI conditions, with no Hayya approval needed for the race.
Hayya's Conference and Events Visa is arranged by organisers for the people they invite. Ordinary ticket holders use the normal entry routes.
Hotel Booking, Funds and Return Ticket Checks
Accommodation rules depend on how you enter:
- Visa-free entry: a confirmed hotel booked through discoverqatar.qa, per the MoI
- Hayya e-visa: any booking platform, or a host registered on Hayya
On Hayya, the booking needs to match the flight dates and cover the whole stay with no gaps. Extending the trip means rebooking or finding other accommodation. Hayya also recommends keeping proof of the booking or host, because accommodation can be checked at any point during travel.
A relative in Qatar with a valid QID and an address registered on the Metrash app can host you through Hayya. Each host adds one property, with up to five guests.
Another option is a family visit visa, which the relative applies for through Metrash2. The MoI lists a QR 200 fee and one month, extendable by up to five more months for first-degree relatives. The host needs a monthly salary of QAR 5,000 and a job outside the labour category. The visitor's passport needs at least six months of validity.
On funds, as of October 2026, none of the official Qatari pages we checked sets a minimum amount of money or a bank statement rule for Indian visitors, so we do not quote a figure.
The MoI asks visa-free travellers for a confirmed round-trip ticket, and Hayya lists a return flight for A1, A2 and A3.
Recent Changes (2025-2026)
- New name: Qatar Tourism now says "visa-free entry" for what it used to call visa on arrival, and says only the name changed. MoI pages still say on-arrival visa.
- Hotel choice on Hayya: the Hayya FAQ says Indian e-visa applicants are not restricted to Discover Qatar.
- Updated guides: Hayya revised its A1 and A3 how-to guides in May 2026.
- Checker wording: Qatar Tourism's visa checker, updated in August 2026, appears no longer to show the Discover Qatar requirement for India, while still showing it for Pakistan and Thailand.
We could not find dates for the Hayya and checker changes. Qatar Tourism's visa page still says the MoI requires some nationalities to book through Discover Qatar, though no country list follows. The MoI page for Indians still says Discover Qatar only, and that is the page to follow.
FAQ
Is Qatar visa-free for Indians in 2026?
Yes. As of October 2026 the MoI gives Indian passport holders free entry for up to 30 days or the length of the hotel reservation, with a Discover Qatar hotel, a round-trip ticket, health insurance and a passport valid three months.
Can I extend a visa-free stay in Qatar?
The MoI lists it as a maximum of 30 days and does not describe it as extendable. Hayya e-visa holders apply for extensions before expiry at the Directorate of Passport, Hamad International Airport.
Do I have to book my hotel through Discover Qatar?
For visa-free entry, the MoI says yes. Qatar Tourism's checker uses softer wording, but Discover Qatar is the safer choice. Hayya e-visa applicants may book on any platform or stay with a registered host.
How much does a Hayya e-visa cost for Indians?
A1, A2 and A3 each cost QAR 100, paid after final approval and non-refundable. Hayya says the A1 fee can be waived under certain conditions.
Can I apply for Hayya A3 with a UAE residence visa?
No. A3 covers the US, the UK, Canada, Schengen, Australia and New Zealand. Gulf residents use A2 or the MoI on-arrival visa for GCC residents.
How long does Hayya take to approve an application?
Hayya publishes no processing time and says it may vary. According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, one application had been Pending for two months, a single case rather than a typical wait.
Can I fly to Qatar while my Hayya application is pending?
Not on Hayya: entry needs an approved, emailed e-visa. MoI visa-free entry is separate.
Is health insurance mandatory for Qatar?
The MoI makes it a condition of entry. Qatar Tourism says visitors without a policy can buy one on arrival.
Is there a special visa for the Qatar Grand Prix?
We found no official page on visas for F1 spectators. Hayya's event visa covers organisers' invitees, and ticket holders use the normal routes.
