How UAE Residents Get a Spain Visa (2026 Quick Answer)
Spain lists one consular office in the UAE, its Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and it decides Schengen visas for residents whose only or main destination is Spain. Spain lists no consulate in Dubai; its Emirates Towers office there is the Economic and Commercial Office, a trade office.
Files are lodged in person, with an appointment, normally at BLS International in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which forwards each one to the Embassy the next working day; Friday files arrive on Monday. The essentials as of 6 October 2026:
- Appointments are free and booked by the applicant.
- Your UAE residence visa needs one month of validity beyond the Spanish visa's expiry.
- The fee is EUR 90 (EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12), paid in dirhams plus a BLS service charge.
- The legal decision period is 15 calendar days, up to 45; BLS plans for about three weeks, as guidance only.
According to the European Commission's 2025 consulate statistics, Spain's Abu Dhabi post received 30,265 Schengen visa applications, with a not-issued rate of 14.1%. The Commission calculates that rate across all nationalities and application centres, so it is not a refusal rate for any one nationality, nor a reason to apply elsewhere: your main destination decides the country. Our guide to the Schengen main-destination rule explains the test.
BLS International in the UAE - Centres and Booking
As of 6 October 2026, BLS runs three Spain visa points, taking files from 9:00 to 15:00 and returning passports from 15:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday:
- Abu Dhabi: Tamouh Tower, 13th floor, office 1311, Marina Square, Al Reem Island.
- Dubai: I Rise Tower, 27th floor, office C-13, Barsha Heights (Tecom).
- Premium Lounge: I Rise Tower, 9th floor, office C3, Barsha Heights, Dubai.
They close at weekends and on Embassy holidays. The helpline is 04 387 5660 or [email protected], and BLS says it replies within 2 working days.
The Embassy is at No. 96 Al Ladeem Street, Al Nahyan Commercial Buildings, Abu Dhabi (+971 2 407 9000; visa section [email protected]).
Booking rules
- Booking is free and only on the BLS website.
- Applicants book their own; the system checks who is booking, and slots made through intermediaries are refused at the centre.
- No rescheduling: you cancel and book again.
- BLS fees paid online at booking are non-refundable, even after a cancellation or no-show.
- Everyone aged 12 and over attends in person for biometrics.
So Visarun does not book BLS slots or speed up appointments or decisions; we help prepare your file and check each document before your visit. Our Schengen visa from Dubai guide covers the other missions.
Why There Are No Appointments and What to Do
We found no official explanation of when Spain slots are released, how far ahead the calendar opens or whether a waiting list exists. The calendar sits behind a login, and we did not check it ourselves.
According to residents' reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, availability is patchy and slots appear in batches, but the accounts conflict:
- On 6 October a resident said the booking page kept showing "No appointments at the moment"; on 2 October another said two months of trying had failed.
- On 29 September a self-described UAE visa professional wrote that Spain could already have mid-December slots.
- On 5 October a Dubai resident said daily checking had found lots of open slots around the start of September.
Article 9 of the EU Visa Code says appointments should, as a rule, come within two weeks of the request, with an exception for justified urgent cases. That is the legal frame, not a promise about the BLS calendar.
What you can do
- Daily checks: we recommend checking the BLS website every day from your own account.
- Self-booking: paying anyone for a slot is money at risk, since BLS refuses bookings made through intermediaries.
- Urgent trips: we suggest asking the Embassy's visa section, which decides any urgency exception.

Documents and the Residence Validity Rule
The Embassy's UAE tourist-visa checklist, hosted on BLS's site, states the residence rule: "Passport with valid UAE residence visa with a minimum validity of 1 month from the date of expiry of requested visa."
Counting the month
The clock starts at the visa's expiry, not your return flight. Under Article 24 of the Visa Code, a single-entry visa normally includes a 15-calendar-day "period of grace", though member states may decide not to grant it.
Our own arithmetic for a 2 to 9 January 2027 trip: the visa may run to about 24 January, so the residence visa should run to about 24 February. According to residents' reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, one worker whose residence ends in mid-February asked about this very trip; on our numbers, that could fall short.
If your residence ends within about seven weeks of your return, we recommend renewing first or asking the Embassy. The checklist also asks for copies of your UAE residence permits from the last five years, except for under-18s. Residence minimums differ by mission; our guide to bank statement and Emirates ID rules for UAE applications compares them.
The rest of the checklist
- Passport: valid three months beyond the visa's expiry, with two empty pages, issued within 10 years and signed, plus any previous passport.
- Bank statements: your own, for the last three months; the checklist sets no minimum.
- Employment: an original English sponsor letter (trip purpose, qualification, UAE start date) and a salary certificate, signed and showing the signatory's name, position and Emirates ID copy. Self-sponsored applicants add a trade licence copy officially translated into Spanish or English.
- Dependants: the sponsor's salary certificate and bank statement; if applying without the sponsor, BLS's page adds the sponsor's NOC and original statements for three months showing salary transfers, not internet extracts.
- Insurance: the whole visa period and all Schengen countries, at least EUR 30,000 plus repatriation; credit-card cover is not accepted.
- Trip: a hotel booking, a lease or deed (in Spanish or officially translated) or an invitation letter stamped by the Spanish police, plus a signed itinerary and return ticket booking.
- Family: a translated marriage certificate for mixed-nationality couples; for under-18s, both parents' signed consent with their passports and a translated birth certificate.
Fees, Premium Services and Processing Times
The legal fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12 (Visa Code Article 16).
BLS listed AED 388 for adults of most nationalities, AED 194 for children aged 6-12 and nothing for children under 6, plus an AED 73 service charge including VAT, when we checked on 6 October 2026; the dirham fee follows the exchange rate and can change without notice, so we suggest rechecking it before your appointment. That is AED 461 for one adult with no extras (our sum). The visa fee is paid by cash or card when you apply and is non-refundable.
Optional extras as of 6 October 2026
- Premium Lounge: AED 450 (BLS does not say whether per applicant or with VAT).
- Prime Time slot, 15:00 to 17:00 on weekdays: AED 262.50 including VAT.
- Flexible appointment, any time during submission hours: AED 125.
- Express Delivery: AED 85.
- Doorstep service: AED 1,100 per application (one or two applications).
BLS says the lounge "does not imply obtaining earlier appointments", and that none of its optional services brings a fast-track slot or faster processing.
According to residents' reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, one Dubai family found the lounge "was not premium at all" and had visas five days after lodging, without crediting the lounge. Five days is an outlier next to the legal 15, not a benchmark.
BLS's news page lists courier return among lounge features, yet Express Delivery is priced separately; we recommend asking what the lounge fee covers before paying.
Processing times
Applications are accepted between six months and 15 days before travel. The legal decision period is 15 calendar days from the day after lodging, extendable to 45 if an interview or more documents are requested.
BLS calls three weeks the minimum processing time, citing the Embassy, while the Embassy's leaflet says up to three weeks. BLS asks for files at least three weeks before travel, and later applicants sign a declaration acknowledging that period. Three weeks is planning guidance, not a guaranteed time.
Waiting for a Decision - Tracking and Courier
Your receipt carries a code for tracking the file on the Spanish foreign ministry's portal; BLS also has a status page using your reference number and date of birth. The Embassy gives no updates by phone or email.
The passport stays with the file: the Embassy's leaflet allows withdrawal only for pilots and cabin crew, and dates cannot be changed after lodging unless duly justified. We recommend refundable or changeable tickets.
- Collection: at the centre with your receipt, weekdays 15:00 to 17:00, or other working hours for AED 40.
- Representative: your receipt, your authority letter and a copy of their ID.
- Courier: Express Delivery (AED 85) arrives on the day of issuance for Abu Dhabi residents and the next day before 18:00 elsewhere.
BLS names no courier company and disclaims liability for delays, loss or damage in the courier's hands. Files not collected within a month of notification or grant may be archived.
Closures and Christmas
BLS's Spain centres close on 12 October, 2 and 7 December, 24, 25 and 31 December 2026 and 1 January 2027.
According to residents' reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, one applicant who lodged at BLS Dubai on 21 September had no update after 22 September as of 30 September, with a flight on 13 October. On our arithmetic, the legal 15 days ran to 6 October, but the three-week mark fell on 12 October, a closure day.
For a late-December trip, the three-week mark falls around the early-December closures, so we recommend a November appointment; the window opens six months ahead.
Recent Changes (2025-2026)
- Entry/Exit System: EES started on 12 October 2025 and has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, taking fingerprints and facial images of non-EU short-stay travellers at the external borders of 29 European countries instead of passport stamps.
- Fee: the Visa Code as consolidated on 11 June 2024 sets EUR 90 and EUR 45, matched by BLS's dirham prices, while the Embassy's web page still shows an older figure.
- Checklists: the BLS-hosted tourism and teleworker checklists carry a 30 June 2026 file date, which dates the PDFs rather than any rule change.
Spain's digital-nomad, or international teleworker, visa is a separate national visa, not a Schengen one. The Embassy's page places it under Law 28/2022 for remote work for foreign companies (work for Spanish firms capped at 20% of activity) and asks for a lot: a degree or three years' experience, three months' prior employment, a company active for at least a year, an NIE, Spanish Social Security affiliation and a MOFA-legalised police certificate with sworn Spanish translation. The booking route conflicts: the Embassy's page says to email its visa section, while the checklist on BLS's site says to book on the BLS website only. We recommend confirming it with [email protected] before preparing the file.
FAQ
Is there a Spanish consulate in Dubai?
Spain lists no consulate in Dubai. Visas are decided at the Embassy in Abu Dhabi, and Dubai residents can lodge at BLS in Barsha Heights.
Can an agency book my BLS appointment?
No. BLS accepts only appointments booked by applicants themselves. Visarun helps prepare and check documents; it does not book slots.
Can I reschedule a BLS Spain appointment?
No. You cancel and rebook, and BLS fees paid online are not refunded.
How long should my UAE residence visa be valid?
At least one month beyond the Spanish visa's expiry; allowing for the 15-day grace period, we suggest about seven weeks beyond your return.
How much does a Spain visa cost from Dubai?
EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to under 12. On 6 October 2026, BLS listed AED 388 or AED 194, plus an AED 73 service charge.
Does the Premium Lounge speed things up?
No. BLS says the lounge brings no earlier appointment and no faster decision.
How long does a decision take?
Legally 15 calendar days, up to 45. BLS and the Embassy's leaflet plan for about three weeks, with no guarantee.
Can I get my passport back during processing?
Only pilots and cabin crew can withdraw a passport mid-process, according to the Embassy's leaflet.
What if my Spain visa is refused?
Refusals come in writing with reasons. You can ask the Embassy to reconsider within one month or seek judicial review at the High Court of Justice of Madrid within two months; BLS says appeals can be filed at its centres without an appointment. Our guide to Schengen refusals for GCC residents covers common reasons.
