According to applicant reports on Reddit in early September 2026, applicants from Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi posted about stalled Swiss files between 31 August and 9 September, across ten threads with 205 comments. One who lodged at VFS Chennai on 20 August wrote on 31 August that the file reached the Embassy on 24 August with no update since. Another who submitted at VFS Pune on 28 August reported on 4 September that it reached the Embassy on 1 September and was still under processing.

These are individual accounts, and one person's timeline does not set a rule for yours.

As of September 2026, neither the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi nor VFS Global has published a notice acknowledging longer than normal processing, and the Embassy pages carry no delay banner. No mainstream outlet has covered this wave. Applicants report a slowdown; no authority has confirmed one.

Official Processing Times vs What Applicants Are Seeing

The legal anchor is the common Schengen rule Switzerland applies: applications are decided on within 15 calendar days of lodging, extendable to a maximum of 45 calendar days where a more detailed examination or additional documents are required.

Swiss official pages for India then give three different figures for the same step, which is one reason applicants believe they are overdue when the Embassy does not:

• 10 to 15 calendar days from the moment the file arrives at the Embassy, subject to completeness, per the Embassy of Switzerland in India.
• 10 to 15 working days after submission at a VFS centre, further down the same page: a different unit from a different starting point.
• 7 to 10 calendar days after submission at a VFS centre, on the Schengen procedure page of the same Embassy.

Two clocks are running

According to the VFS Global information sheet for Switzerland in India, the 15-day count starts when the Embassy receives the application and excludes transport time from the centre. Applicants count from the biometrics day; the Embassy counts from the day the file landed on its desk. In the reports above, files from Chennai and Pune reached the Embassy about four days later, so someone who feels ten days late can be six days into the official count.

Where Applications Get Stuck - VFS, the Embassy and the Consulate

The Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi states that all visa applications submitted all over India are processed there. The Consulate General in Mumbai handles no visa matters and directs all visa affairs to the Embassy, so guides naming Mumbai or Bengaluru as decision-makers are wrong.

The Embassy lists VFS centres in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune as feeding applications to it. The city of submission affects the transport leg, not the decision.

VFS Global states in its own disclaimer that the grant or refusal of a visa is at the sole discretion of the Embassy, and that VFS is neither involved in the process nor liable for any delay in processing. Pressing the centre for a faster decision reaches the wrong desk.

Files run long for procedural reasons: the consular post may request additional documents in individual cases, and the applicant may be called for an interview.

How to Track Your Application and Read the Status Messages

For short-stay files the Embassy points applicants elsewhere: its page states that for C type visa application status, applicants should contact VFS. Have the reference from your submission receipt to hand.

The EES line in the tracker

The Entry/Exit System started operating on 12 October 2025 and became fully operational on 10 April 2026, replacing passport stamping at external borders. It is a border record system, and EU law requires visa authorities to consult it when examining visa applications and adopting decisions on them.

Neither VFS Global nor the Embassy publishes what that line measures, when it updates, or whether it relates to the decision at all, so we would not read it as approval or refusal. It fits a mandatory system check, and the published information goes no further. Portal wording also changes over time, so we recommend confirming any status with your visa centre rather than with community threads.

Flight in Two Days and No Decision - What You Can Actually Do

The uncomfortable answer first: for ordinary tourist or business travel there is no published lever that makes the Embassy decide faster.

The Swiss fast-track procedure in India exists for serious and urgent medical reasons: urgent treatment, a serious accident, a loss in the family. A booked flight, a paid hotel or a conference date does not qualify.

Paid services change nothing either. VFS Global states that opting for value-added services has no influence on a quicker or positive visa decision by the embassy or consulate, and its disclaimer puts the decision and its timing with the Embassy alone.

What is actually available

• One message to the visa section. The Embassy publishes [email protected] for specific queries regarding the visa procedure. Worth including: reference number, submission date, travel dates.
• Realistic expectations. According to applicant reports on Reddit in early September 2026, an applicant with a 3 September flight got a reply that simply restated the 10 to 15 day processing time, and no Swiss standard for answering such emails is published.

The common Schengen rules reimburse the visa fee in one situation only: where the consular post finds it is not competent, returns the documents and indicates which consulate is competent. A late decision, a withdrawal or a refusal is not on that list. Fees are as of September 2026 and worth re-checking before payment.
