Do Indians Need a Visa for Turkey? (2026 Quick Answer)

Yes. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) says holders of Indian ordinary, special and service passports need a visa. Only diplomatic passports are exempt, for up to 90 days.

As of October 2026, a Turkey visa for Indians takes one of two forms:

  • The e-Visa at evisa.gov.tr, open only to Indians who hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland and meet certain further conditions. The MFA calls it single entry, "valid for one month".
  • A sticker visa for everyone else, applied for in India through the authorised visa application centre.

Indians cannot get a visa on arrival: unlike some other entries in the MFA's country list, the India entry offers none. On any visa, a stay cannot exceed 90 days within each 180 days.

Turkey e-Visa for Indians - The Supporting Visa Rule

The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi's March 2024 notice says Indians qualify for the e-Visa only with a valid visa or a valid residence permit from a Schengen country, the USA, the UK or Ireland. Valid means valid on the day you enter Turkey.

  • Used or unused: both count if the visa covers your entry date; an expired one does not.
  • Old passport: a still-valid visa in an old passport counts; the e-Visa goes on the current passport, and both are shown to Turkish immigration.
  • Other countries' e-Visas: not accepted.
  • US Green Card: accepted while valid. According to a January 2025 notice of the Turkish Consulate General in Los Angeles, written for US-based travellers, officers recognise Green Cards but not other US papers that allow a legal stay without a valid visa.
  • UK: a still-valid UK visa sticker works like any other supporting visa; the digital UK eVisa is a grey area (see below).

The MFA's India entry mentions "certain conditions" without listing them. The same Los Angeles notice, written as general Turkish consular guidance rather than for India, lists these criteria:

  • proof of a return ticket, a hotel reservation and at least USD 50 per day of stay;
  • travel for tourism or business;
  • entry through an airport, as the e-Visa route does not apply at land border checkpoints.

How to Apply for the e-Visa

The only official website is evisa.gov.tr. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi calls every other site offering the e-Visa fake and says such sites charge more than twice the official fee. It adds that the Turkish missions in India have delegated no company to issue or facilitate e-Visas, so applicants file their own.

  • Purpose: tourism or commerce only. For work or study, visas come from Turkish embassies or consulates.
  • Fee and conditions: according to the Embassy's 2024 instructions (the portal screens may have changed), you click Apply, pick your country and passport type, then Save and Continue once to see the fee and again to see the conditions.
  • Form and payment: identity, passport and travel dates, then payment online; the MFA says it takes about three minutes and works 24/7.

Visarun is an agency, not an official channel: we can help check whether your document qualifies, but the e-Visa is issued only through evisa.gov.tr.

Sticker Visa from India - Where and How to Apply

You need a sticker visa if you lack a qualifying supporting document, travel for work or study, or, under the consular guidance above, plan to enter by land.

Under MFA rules, sticker-visa applications start online and, where a visa application centre receives them, go through that centre. In October 2026, Turkey's consular e-services portal told applicants to all three Turkish missions in India to apply through authorised agencies, naming none.

According to the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi's consular page (last updated in 2021), the Embassy gives no information on visa applications and refers applicants to its visa application company, named as Gateway. We found no current official booking link, so we recommend confirming the current centre on the Embassy or consulate website before booking.

Which mission covers your state

  • Embassy in New Delhi: Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir and the north-eastern states.
  • Consulate General in Mumbai: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep.
  • Consulate General in Hyderabad: Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

According to Gateway International's India pages as last updated in May 2025, the jurisdiction rule is applied strictly, and both work and residence addresses determine your jurisdiction. Those pages listed centres in Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata and New Delhi; Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Mumbai, Puducherry, Pune and Trivandrum; and Hyderabad.

Gateway's May 2025 Mumbai-jurisdiction checklist adds that passports issued outside that jurisdiction need local address proof.

According to Gateway International's India application guide (2023), you arrive 15 minutes early with all documents; after a security check, complete files go on to payment and biometrics, and the receipt (voucher) carries your tracking number.

Documents for the Sticker Visa

The most detailed list we found is Gateway's May 2025 tourist-visa checklist for the Mumbai consulate's jurisdiction; lists for New Delhi and Hyderabad may differ. According to that checklist:

  • Application form handwritten in blue or black ink in block letters, with one biometric photo and a signature (a legal guardian's for minors) matching your other documents.
  • Original passport valid for at least 6 months on arrival, with at least 2 blank pages, plus local address proof where needed.
  • Two biometric photos, 2.5 x 2.5 inches, white background, taken within the last 6 months, without glasses.
  • Signed covering letter with the full travel plan: purpose, companions, length of stay, occupation and who pays, with dates that match every other document.
  • Original employer leave letter on letterhead (designation, period of work, salary, purpose and dates of travel); for students, a school no-objection letter and a student ID copy.
  • Salary slips for 3 months, income tax returns for 3 years, and salary-account and personal bank statements for 6 months, stamped and signed by the bank on every page, updated within the last 15 days, with at least INR 1 lakh per person.
  • Round-trip flight reservation (buying the ticket before the visa is granted is not recommended) and a hotel reservation.
  • Travel insurance for the whole stay in Turkey; a policy can be bought at the centre when you submit.

The MFA adds two rules for all applicants: medical insurance valid for the entire stay, and official written approval from both parents for anyone under 18, with exceptions where parents are officially divorced or one has died.

Fees, Validity and Processing Time

According to Gateway International's India fee chart as last updated in 2025, each applicant pays the Turkish visa fee plus Gateway's application fee:

  • Single entry, valid 3 months — INR 5,210 plus INR 12,513
  • Single entry, valid 6 months — INR 5,210 plus INR 14,569
  • Multiple entry, valid 6 months, business only — INR 15,620 plus INR 14,268
  • Multiple entry, valid 12 months, business only — INR 15,620 plus INR 16,625

The same chart says INR 6,859 is charged online at booking and the rest at the centre by cash, card or UPI. For a 3-month single entry that means INR 17,723 in total, with INR 10,864 paid at the centre. We recommend confirming the current amount when booking.

The MFA says visa fees are not refunded if the application is rejected. We found no official published e-Visa fee for Indian passports as of October 2026.

Validity and length of stay

The Indian e-Visa is single entry and, in the MFA's words, "valid for one month"; no official source we found says how soon it has to be used. Gateway's chart shows sticker-visa validity, not the permitted stay, which no official source we found specifies. Any stay is capped at 90 days within each 180 days.

Processing time and when to apply

Gateway International's India processing-time page (February 2025) gives these minimums in working days, not guarantees:

  • New Delhi — 4
  • Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Jalandhar and Kolkata — 6
  • Mumbai — 7 (individual applications)
  • Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Puducherry and Pune — 10
  • Hyderabad — up to 5

The MFA recommends applying at least one month before the trip. According to Gateway's May 2025 tourist-visa checklist for the Mumbai jurisdiction, you can apply no earlier than 60 days before travel and, in principle, at least 12 working days before departure. Visarun does not promise a turnaround; the decision rests with the Turkish mission.

Arrival in Turkey - What Border Officers Check

The MFA states that Turkish visas do not guarantee an absolute right of entry. For e-Visa holders, checks start before boarding: the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi says the e-Visa website does not verify the supporting document, but airlines and immigration do, and airlines refuse boarding if it falls short.

We recommend having with you:

  • the original supporting visa or residence permit, which the Embassy asks travellers to carry for Turkish immigration, plus the old passport if the visa is in it;
  • proof of a return ticket, a hotel reservation and at least USD 50 per day of stay, as listed in Turkish consular guidance;
  • a passport valid for at least six months from arrival, as the MFA advises (the legal minimum is 60 days beyond your permitted stay), ideally with two blank pages.

UK digital eVisa: a grey area

UK government guidance says eVisas have replaced physical UK immigration documents, while existing visa stickers stay valid until they expire. We found no official Turkish position on digital UK status.

According to one traveller's report on Reddit in September 2026 (not an official rule), an Indian passport holder whose e-Visa rested on a UK eVisa was asked for the share code at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and cleared in about two minutes with a printout. The airline and the border officer decide, so we suggest carrying a printed share code and your UKVI status page, or choosing a sticker visa if in doubt.

Recent Changes (2025-2026)

We found no India-specific change to the e-Visa rule in 2025 or 2026. As of October 2026, the MFA's India entry still offers ordinary passports only the conditional e-Visa, and we found no announcement of visa-free entry or a visa on arrival for Indians.

  • Fees: the newest sticker-visa figures we found are from Gateway International's India fee chart as last updated in 2025; 2026 amounts may differ.
  • UK documents: the UK's move to digital eVisas created the grey area above.
  • Transit: since 15 April 2024, Indian passport holders flying via Istanbul Airport to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela need a free Electronic Airport Transit Visa (e-ATV) from evisa.gov.tr. Airlines and Turkish officers in the transit area check the printout.
  • COP31 in Antalya: a free electronic "COP31 Visa" through the e-Visa platform, for registered COP31 participants only: multiple entry, valid 1 to 30 November 2026, a stay of up to 30 days, issued within 7 working days, passport valid at least 90 days after arrival.

FAQ

Can I get a Turkey e-Visa with an expired US, UK or Schengen visa?

No. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi accepts used or unused supporting visas only if their validity covers your entry date.

My US visa is in my old passport. Does it count?

Yes, if the visa is valid on your entry date. The e-Visa goes on your current passport, and the Embassy asks you to carry the old one for Turkish immigration.

Is a US Green Card enough for the e-Visa?

Yes, if valid, alongside the other e-Visa conditions. According to a January 2025 notice of the Turkish Consulate General in Los Angeles, written for US-based travellers, other US status papers without a valid visa are not accepted.

Can I work or study on the Turkey e-Visa?

No. The MFA limits the e-Visa to tourism or commerce; work and study visas come from Turkish embassies or consulates.

How long can I stay in Turkey?

The Indian e-Visa is single entry and, in the MFA's words, valid for one month. Under any visa, a stay cannot exceed 90 days within each 180 days.

What do children need?

The MFA requires official written approval from both parents for any applicant under 18. Exceptions apply if the parents are officially divorced and custody is proven, or one parent has died.

Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Turkey?

No. The MFA's India entry has no arrival-visa option, so Indians need an e-Visa or a sticker visa before they fly.

Do I need a visa to transit Istanbul to Mexico?

Yes, the free e-ATV from evisa.gov.tr, required since 15 April 2024 for Indian passport holders flying via Istanbul Airport to Mexico, Panama, Colombia or Venezuela.

Can Visarun get my e-Visa or guarantee a Turkey visa?

No. Turkish missions in India have delegated no company to issue or facilitate e-Visas, so you apply at evisa.gov.tr yourself. Visarun is an agency: we help choose the route and prepare sticker-visa documents, but approval and entry are decided by the Turkish authorities.
