Frequently Asked Questions

Do American citizens need a visa for Singapore?
No. American citizens can visit Singapore without a visa, as their country is not on ICA's list of countries and places whose travel documents require one. Before you arrive, submit the free SG Arrival Card, and travel on a passport valid for at least 6 months. At the checkpoint an ICA officer decides on your entry and grants a Short-Term Visit Pass, sent to you as an e-Pass by email. Refugee travel documents, alien's passports and some special documents, such as a temporary passport issued by the UAE, need a visa even when the issuing country is visa-free.
Is there a cost or waiting time for visa-free entry?
No. Visa-free entry costs nothing, and there is no application to process before you travel. The SG Arrival Card is free when you submit it through ICA's official channels, the SG Arrival Card e-Service or the MyICA mobile app. ICA says commercial websites offering to submit it for you are not affiliated with it. Your visit pass is granted at the checkpoint, and the e-Pass is sent to the email address in your SG Arrival Card after immigration clearance.
How long can American citizens stay in Singapore?
Singapore publishes no fixed number of days for American citizens. The ICA officer decides your period of stay at entry, and your e-Pass email shows the number of days granted and the last day you may stay; there is no passport stamp. If you need more time, apply online to ICA when 14 days or less remain on your visit pass. Extensions are processed within 5 working days, and you need a local sponsor if you have immediate family who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents. Overstaying is a punishable offence.
What do I need to enter Singapore visa-free?
You need a passport valid for at least 6 months, and every traveller, including children, needs an individually issued travel document. Submit the SG Arrival Card with its electronic health declaration within 3 days before arrival. Carry a return or onward ticket, any visa needed for your next destination and sufficient funds for your stay. A yellow fever certificate is required if you were in a country with yellow fever risk in the 6 days before arrival. A visit pass does not allow employment, even unpaid, unless you hold a work pass or the activity is a Work Pass Exempt Activity.
When and where do I submit the SG Arrival Card?
Submit it within 3 days before you arrive, counting the day of arrival, on ICA's SG Arrival Card e-Service at eservices.ica.gov.sg or in the free MyICA app for iOS and Android. It is free, it is needed for every trip, and it is not a visa. Travellers who do not submit it may be denied entry, and under No-Boarding Directives in force since 30 January 2026 airlines may be asked to check it before boarding. You do not need one if you only transit through Singapore without clearing immigration.
