Do Indians Need a Visa for Armenia? (2026 Quick Answer)
Yes. As of October 2026, the visa checker of Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), updated on 30 June 2026, says Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa. Indians who live abroad may also qualify for a temporary exemption.
- Visa-free: a residence permit of the USA, an EU or Schengen state, or one of the six GCC states, valid at least six months on the day you enter. This runs until 1 July 2027.
- Visa at the border: only with a qualifying third-country visa or residence permit, such as a US, UK or Schengen visa.
- e-Visa: AMD 3,000 (about USD 8) for up to 21 days or AMD 15,000 (about USD 39) for up to 120 days, normally ready in 3 working days.
- Embassy visa: the Embassy of Armenia in New Delhi.
An Indian passport on its own does not get a visa at the border. For most travellers from India the e-Visa is the simplest path, and the embassy in New Delhi itself recommends it.
Armenia e-Visa - Fee, Validity and How to Apply
In October 2026 the official e-Visa portal lists two visitor e-Visas, at the visitor visa rates of the MFA fee table valid from 1 January 2026:
- Short-Term, up to 21 days of stay: AMD 3,000 (about USD 8)
- Long-Term, up to 120 days of stay: AMD 15,000 (about USD 39)
Both fees are non-refundable, and the dollar figure moves with the exchange rate. No fixed validity window is published. The portal works out the valid dates from your arrival date, and we recommend checking them against your flights.
Two routes for Indian applicants
The Embassy of Armenia in New Delhi (page updated 30 June 2026) gives two document sets. Route A needs a qualifying third-country document:
- Travel (medical) insurance
- A valid visa or residence permit of the EU or Schengen states, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the UK, Canada, Russia or Japan, or a valid residence permit (not a visa) of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain or Oman
Route B is for everyone else:
- Travel (medical) insurance
- A return air ticket reservation
- An invitation from a party in Armenia, such as a local tour agency, university, employer or other local company
- Proof of funds, for example bank statements for the last 3 months or an employment certificate with salary
A one-way ticket is accepted only for study, work or other justified cases. No minimum insurance cover or bank balance is published. Route B means a US, UK or Schengen visa is not required to apply online.
How the application works
- Form: on the MFA's e-Visa portal you choose Short-Term or Long-Term and enter your arrival date.
- Documents: the passport plus the route A or route B papers. For a minor, a parent's passport is attached too.
- Payment: through the state E-payments system by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or PayPal.
- Processing: normally 3 working days, counted from the next business day after submission. The MFA may ask for more documents, which can delay it.
- Result: no sticker to collect, but the MFA strongly advises printing the e-Visa.
According to the portal's terms, a refusal is not refunded and cannot be appealed, except where the law provides for it.
Visa on Arrival for Indians
Indians cannot get a visa at the Armenian border on their passport alone. India is not on the Border Guard's short list of nationalities that can.
As of October 2026, the MFA and the embassy say a border visa is possible for Indians who show:
- A valid visa or residence permit of the EU or Schengen states, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the UK, Canada, Russia or Japan
- A valid residence permit of a GCC state, as a physical card or a sticker
The Border Guard states the same rule. For the Gulf states only residence counts, so a GCC visit visa does not qualify.
The fee is a state duty set by Armenia's Law on State Duty. We found no official page giving the amount charged at the border, so we do not quote one.
The e-Visa portal also asks border-visa travellers to check that their checkpoint or airport has a visa office, yet we found no official list. We recommend getting the e-Visa before travel, especially by land.
Visa-Free Entry With a US, Schengen or GCC Residence Permit
From 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027, nationals of 111 listed countries who hold a residence permit issued by the USA, an EU member state, a Schengen state, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman do not need an Armenian visa. India is number 49 on the MFA list dated 30 June 2026. The limit is 180 days within a one-year period.
- It has to be a residence permit, valid for at least six months from the day you enter.
- It is shown as a physical card or a sticker in the passport.
- Border officers may recognise it if it shows in Latin script the document title, your name, nationality, date of birth and validity dates in Gregorian format.
Ordinary visas do not count. A US B1/B2 or Schengen C visa opens only the e-Visa (route A) and the border visa. The same goes for British visas and permits, as the UK is not on the issuer list.
The MFA does not list which US documents count. Holders of a US work or student visa without a residence card should not count on visa-free entry, but their US visa still opens the e-Visa and the border visa.
In a January 2026 note written for the previous phase, the Armenian Embassy in Kuwait said scanned, copied or mobile cards are not accepted. Following that note's method, a card expiring on 1 June 2027 allows visa-free entry up to and including 1 December 2026. With less than six months left, the embassy says a visa is needed, from the border or through e-Visa route A, while the permit is still valid.
Indians Living in the UAE
An Indian with a UAE residence permit valid for at least six months on the day of entry can visit Armenia visa-free until 1 July 2027. The UAE stopped issuing residence stickers on 11 April 2022, and the Emirates ID card now proves residence, according to the UAE's federal identity authority. Going by the Kuwait embassy's note, we recommend the physical Emirates ID, not a phone app or a scan.
- Permit valid for less than six months: the border visa or e-Visa route A.
- UAE visit or tourist visa only: it counts for nothing here, so we cannot promise a shortcut. Route B of the e-Visa remains, and the MFA decides.
- Emirati citizens: visa-free for up to 180 days a year.
Documents and Entry Checks
Passport rule: valid for at least 3 months after you leave Armenia, with at least 2 blank pages, and issued no more than 10 years ago. That also covers the embassy's rule of validity for the whole stay.
What we recommend carrying at the airport or land border:
- The printed e-Visa, since airlines and immigration are likely to ask for it
- Travel (medical) insurance
- The physical visa or residence card your entry is based on
- A return ticket and a hotel booking
- The invitation and bank statements, if you used route B
According to its FAQ, the embassy in New Delhi is the only Armenian consular office in India, takes 10 working days and accepts applications through a travel agent with a letter of authorisation. Its mandatory list adds a form with a 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo and the consular fee to the route B papers.
Crossing From Georgia by Land
Armenia's road checkpoints on the Georgian border are Bagratashen on the main Tbilisi to Yerevan road, Bavra, Gogavan and Privolnoye. Jiliza is not operating. Trains cross at Ayrum.
No official list says which of these has a visa office or accepts the e-Visa. Our advice is to get the e-Visa before leaving Georgia, or to travel on a residence permit that qualifies for visa-free entry.
For the Georgian side, as of 27 October 2026:
- Georgian e-Visa for Indians: USD 20, single entry, up to 30 days in Georgia within a 120-day validity.
- Visa-free 90 days in any 180 with a valid visa or residence permit of a country on Georgia's list, which includes the USA, the UK, EU states, Canada, Australia and the UAE.
- Insurance: since 1 January 2026 tourists need health and accident cover of at least 30,000 GEL.
Our own reading, not an official rule: a single-entry Georgian e-Visa is used up once you leave for Armenia. If you return through Tbilisi, we suggest planning for a new one unless you qualify visa-free.
Visarun helps Indian travellers with the Georgian visa and helps check the documents for the Armenian part of the route. Visas are issued only by the Georgian and Armenian authorities, so we cannot guarantee the outcome.
Recent Changes (2025-2026)
- Late 2024: according to an Armenian law firm's guide, Indian e-Visa applicants have needed a qualifying document or an invitation package since then.
- 22 May 2025: Government Decision 610-N introduced visa-free entry for residence holders of the USA, EU, Schengen and GCC states.
- July 2025: travel trade media reported that the exemption started. We have not seen an official start date.
- 1 January 2026: a new MFA fee table took effect, listing the visitor visa at AMD 3,000 and AMD 15,000. Georgia made tourist insurance compulsory the same day.
- 1 January to 1 July 2026: the exemption list covered 113 countries.
- 30 June 2026: the MFA published a 111-country list for 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027. Yemen and Sudan dropped off, and India stayed. The state news agency Armenpress reported the extension the same day.
The exemption is due to end on 1 July 2027. We recommend checking the MFA visa page before booking.
FAQ
Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Armenia?
Only with a qualifying document, such as a US, UK or Schengen visa or a GCC residence card. We found no official figure for the border fee.
How much does the Armenia e-Visa cost for Indians?
AMD 3,000 (about USD 8) for 21 days and AMD 15,000 (about USD 39) for 120 days, as of October 2026. The fee is not refunded.
How long does the Armenian e-Visa take?
Normally 3 working days from the next business day after you submit. A request for extra documents can push this back.
Can I enter Armenia visa-free with a US B1/B2 or Schengen visa?
No. Visa-free entry needs a residence permit. A US or Schengen visa qualifies you for e-Visa route A or a border visa.
Does a UK visa or BRP give visa-free entry?
No. The UK is not on the issuer list, so British documents work only for the e-Visa and the border visa. We found no Armenian guidance on digital-only UK status.
Can I show my Emirates ID on my phone?
We would not rely on it. Armenia asks for a physical card, and the Armenian Embassy in Kuwait said in January 2026 that mobile versions are not accepted.
How many times can I enter Armenia visa-free?
The Border Guard's general FAQ says entries are unlimited, but the total stay cannot go over 180 days in a year. Each entry needs six months left on the permit.
Can I extend an Armenian visa?
Yes. Visas are issued for up to 120 days and can be extended by up to 60 days inside Armenia through the Migration and Citizenship Service, with a stated reason.
Can I get an Armenian visa at Bagratashen when coming from Georgia?
Possibly, if you hold a qualifying visa or permit, but no official list confirms a visa office there. We recommend getting the e-Visa before leaving Georgia.
