Most other nationalities apply for an e-visa, and some can get a visa at the border. Citizens of invitation-only countries, such as Bangladesh, must apply at an Armenian embassy or consulate with an invitation.

Temporary Visa Exemption for Residence Permit Holders (Extended to July 1, 2027)

Nationals of 111 countries who hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, European Union Member States, Schengen Area States, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or Oman are exempt from the visa requirement for stays of up to 180 days within a one-year period, provided the permit remains valid for at least six months from the date of entry. The exemption originally ran from January 1 to July 1, 2026 and has been extended to July 1, 2027 under the updated list published by the Armenian MFA on June 30, 2026; Sudan and Yemen were removed from the eligible-nationality list. Border authorities recognize the residence permit only if the document title, given name, surname, nationality and date of birth appear in Latin script; a physical card and a passport sticker both qualify.

Note: Citizens of GCC member states (UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) remain permanently visa-free as nationals; the exemption above applied only to third-country nationals residing in those countries on a residence permit.

Visa on Arrival

Travelers from certain countries may obtain a visa on arrival for a maximum stay of 120 days at a cost of AMD 15,000 (approximately $39 USD). This option is available at Zvartnots International Airport and other entry points. Citizens eligible for visa on arrival may also apply for an e-visa in advance.

Some nationalities require specific conditions to qualify for visa on arrival, such as holding a valid visa or residence permit from the United States, Canada, European Union or Schengen Area member states, or United Kingdom, among other qualifying countries. A valid residence permit (physical card or sticker) issued by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain or Oman also satisfies this condition.

E-Visa System

Foreign citizens not eligible for visa-free entry can apply for an e-visa online through the official portal at evisa.mfa.am. Fees are AMD 3,000 (approximately $8 / €7) for a 21-day stay or AMD 15,000 (approximately $39 / €34) for a 120-day stay. The application must be submitted at least 3 business days before the trip. Applications are processed through the official e-visa portal managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Transit and Special Categories

Transit visas allow foreign nationals traveling through Armenia to another destination, issued as single or multiple entry for a maximum 3-day stay within a one-year validity period, extendable for an additional 4 days. Official visas for foreign nationals traveling in an official or service capacity can be issued as single or multiple entry with validities of 1 or 3 years. Diplomatic visas for those traveling in a diplomatic capacity can also be issued as single or multiple entry with validities of 1 or 3 years.

Armenian visas are issued for a maximum of 120 days with the possibility to extend for another 60 days if no other term is defined by international agreements. Extension possibilities vary by visa type, with tourist visas generally requiring migration service approval while business and work visas may qualify for renewal through proper documentation and compliance verification.

Armenia's entry rules differ significantly depending on whether you are a citizen of a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) state or a third-country national residing in the Gulf region on a residence permit (iqama). Understanding this distinction is essential before travel.

GCC Citizens: Permanent Visa-Free Entry

Non-GCC Nationals Holding a GCC Residence Permit (Iqama)

Many expatriates living and working in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other GCC countries hold a local residence permit — commonly known as an iqama or residency card. These individuals are not entitled to visa-free entry based on their GCC permit alone; their entry options depend on their passport nationality.

Temporary exemption (extended to July 1, 2027): A special visa exemption, in effect since January 1, 2026, allows nationals of 111 countries holding a valid US, EU, Schengen, or GCC residence permit to enter Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days within a one-year period, provided the permit remains valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry. On June 30, 2026 the Armenian MFA extended the programme to July 1, 2027 and trimmed the eligible list from 113 to 111 nationalities (Sudan and Yemen removed). Confirm your nationality is on the current MFA list before relying on this route.

Entry Options for GCC Iqama Holders Not Covered by the Exemption

If your nationality is not on the 111-country exemption list, or your permit does not meet the validity conditions, your entry pathway depends on your passport nationality:

• E-visa eligible nationals (e.g., India, Philippines, Egypt, Indonesia): Apply for an Armenia e-visa online at evisa.mfa.am. The fee is AMD 3,000 (~$8) for a 21-day visa or AMD 15,000 (~$39 / €34) for a 120-day visa. Processing takes up to 3 business days. Holding a GCC iqama does not affect e-visa eligibility — it is determined solely by passport nationality.
• Visa-on-arrival eligible nationals with a qualifying permit: Certain nationalities may obtain a visa on arrival if they hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, EU/Schengen area, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, Russia, or Canada, or a valid residence permit (physical card or sticker) issued by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain or Oman.

Armenia E-Visa for Bangladeshi Nationals

Bangladesh is on Armenia's invitation-only list. Bangladeshi passport holders cannot apply for an e-visa through evisa.mfa.am and are not eligible for visa on arrival at Zvartnots Airport or any land border — even when holding a valid GCC, EU, or US residence permit. The only permitted entry route is the embassy sticker visa, obtained after MFA invitation approval.

Armenia does not operate a dedicated international airside transit zone at Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) in Yerevan. All transiting passengers must clear Armenian immigration upon arrival, meaning standard entry requirements apply whether you are transiting or making a destination visit.

Do You Need a Transit Visa?

• Visa-free nationals: No separate transit visa is required. You may enter and transit Armenia freely within your permitted visa-free period (up to 180 days for most visa-free nationalities).

An extension of up to an additional 4 days can be obtained through the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, allowing a potential total of up to 7 days during transit. The transit visa is valid for one year from the date of issue.
