Step 1: Determine Your Visa Category
Identify the appropriate visa type based on your travel purpose: tourist, business, student, or transit. Consider your intended duration of stay and ensure your passport has at least six months validity remaining from your planned entry date.
Step 2: Complete Electronic Travel Authorization
All visitors to St. Kitts and Nevis must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization through the St. Kitts and Nevis Electronic Border Management System, an online platform for ETA applications and Immigration and Customs ED Forms. Travelers apply for a visitor visa online, and confirmation is sent via email from the Ministry of Homeland Security, which must be printed and presented to immigration officers who will issue a visa on arrival.
The ETA application can be submitted up to 90 days before your arrival, and the ETA will be valid for 90 days or until your passport expires, whichever is sooner. The processing fee is approximately USD 8.50 per person.
Step 3: Gather Required Documentation
Collect essential documents including:
- Original passport with at least six months validity and blank pages
- Digital passport-sized photograph taken within the last six months
- Round-trip air tickets, confirmation of hotel reservation or official invitation, and account statement to confirm solvency
- Travel insurance coverage documentation
Ensure all foreign documents are properly translated and legalized through apostille procedures when required.
Step 4: Apply for eVisa Online (If Required)
For nationalities requiring a visa, you may apply online through the official portal, with a fee of USD 100 and processing taking approximately two weeks. Visitors from countries requiring visas can apply online and receive the visa upon arrival after receiving email confirmation.
Complete the online application form accurately, providing all requested personal information, travel details, and passport information. Upload scanned copies of your passport and recent photograph.
Step 5: Submit Immigration and Customs Forms
Before arrival, all visitors are required to submit an online customs and immigration form. All travelers to St. Kitts and Nevis must submit information prior to departure, as failure to comply may lead to being denied boarding or penalty fees on arrival.
Step 6: Attend Embassy Appointment (If Applicable)
A visa can be obtained from a St. Kitts and Nevis diplomatic mission or consular office in the US, UK, Canada, Belgium, or Jamaica. If you are applying through an embassy or consulate rather than online, book your appointment through the official portal, arrive punctually with organized documents, and be prepared for any required biometric data collection, including fingerprints and digital photographs.
Step 7: Pay Processing Fees
The visa fee upon arrival is USD 100. Payment methods typically include cash, certified checks, or money orders. Retain payment receipts for tracking purposes and border control presentation.
Step 8: Track Application Progress
Monitor your application status through the reference number provided by the Electronic Border Management System. It is highly recommended that visa applications be lodged at least two weeks before the estimated date of departure. Processing times vary by visa category and individual circumstances.
Step 9: Receive Travel Authorization
You will receive your ETA or eVisa approval confirmation via email. Print multiple copies of the approval letter to present to immigration officers at the port of entry. For single entry, the validity and maximum length of stay is 30 days, while multiple entries allow validity and maximum stays of 90 days.
Step 10: Present Documents Upon Arrival
Upon arrival in St. Kitts and Nevis, present your printed ETA or eVisa confirmation, valid passport, proof of accommodation, return tickets, and evidence of sufficient funds. Immigration officers will issue your entry stamp or visa sticker. Verify all visa details immediately upon receipt.
Avoiding Common Mistakes
Prevent delays by ensuring complete documentation, accurate form completion, and meeting all deadlines. Persons visiting on a cruise or for less than 24 hours do not require a visa. Double-check that all information matches your supporting documents exactly. If refused, review the rejection reasons carefully before reapplying with additional supporting evidence.
