Your Gateway to Morocco: Essential Visa Pathways for Every Traveler

Professional Immigration Services: Morocco Visa Expertise

If you're planning to explore Morocco's vibrant souks in Marrakech, conduct business in Casablanca, or pursue academic opportunities in Rabat, understanding the country's visa requirements is your first crucial step toward a successful journey.

Navigating Morocco's Strategic Entry Requirements

Morocco maintains a selective visa policy that balances accessibility with security. Citizens of more than 70 countries enjoy visa-free access for tourism purposes, while many other travelers can apply through the e-Visa system launched in July 2022. Citizens of the EU, Schengen member states, the US, the UK, and Canada can travel to Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days.

Key Traveler Categories Requiring Visas:

  • Business professionals and investors from non-exempt countries
  • Students pursuing educational opportunities
  • Long-term visitors and researchers
  • Citizens from countries requiring advance visa approval
  • Travelers seeking stays beyond 90 days

Modern Digital Entry Systems

Morocco operates two distinct digital entry systems through the official portal acces-maroc.ma. The Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) is a mandatory pre-travel registration for nationals of certain visa-exempt countries, currently including Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, and Ecuador. Separately, the e-Visa allows eligible visa-required nationalities to apply entirely online: it grants a single-entry authorization for a maximum 30-day stay, valid 180 days from issue, with processing in 72 hours (standard) or 24 hours (express), and can be extended for an additional six months once inside Morocco.

Morocco Visa Requirements: Who Needs a Visa?

Most travelers can enter Morocco visa-free for tourism and business purposes, but requirements vary significantly by nationality and length of stay.

Visa-Free Entry for Tourism

Citizens of European Union countries, Schengen member states, United States, United Kingdom, and Canada can enter Morocco without a visa for stays up to 90 days. Citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, and around 65 countries total enjoy visa-free travel to Morocco for stays not exceeding 90 days.

Some nationalities receive 30-day visa-free access, while others may receive 60 days, with certain restrictions applying within 180-day periods. Citizens of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, and Ecuador can enter visa-free but must first obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) through the official portal acces-maroc.ma before traveling.

Passport Requirements

  • Your passport must have an expiry date at least 3 months after the date you arrive in Morocco.
  • Minimum 2 blank pages required for entry stamps
  • Make sure your passport is not damaged, as Moroccan authorities have denied entry to some travelers with damaged passports.
  • Make sure the border official stamps your passport, as some travelers have had difficulties leaving Morocco because their passport has no entry stamp.

Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM)

An Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) is currently required for nationals of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, and Ecuador — all of which are visa-exempt but must pre-register at acces-maroc.ma before departure. Morocco has announced plans to extend the AEVM progressively to all visa-exempt nationalities in future phases, with exceptions for nationals holding a valid Moroccan residence permit, transit passengers, and spouses of Moroccan citizens.

E-Visa System

Morocco launched an e-Visa system in July 2022 to facilitate the granting of visas to foreign nationals subject to this formality. The e-Visa is valid for 180 days from the date of issue, allows single entry for a maximum 30-day stay, with processing time of 72 hours standard or 24 hours express. Nationals of India, Israel, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, and Jordan can apply for a Morocco visa online without needing additional supporting documents.

Visa Required Countries

Citizens of India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, most African countries outside specific agreements, and several Middle Eastern nations must obtain visas in advance through Moroccan consulates or apply for an e-Visa if eligible.

Special Cases and Exceptions

Transit passengers remaining in international transit areas for under 24 hours generally do not need visas, but confirmation with airlines is recommended.

Business and work purposes require appropriate visas regardless of nationality. The e-Visa is not for employment, and those planning to work must obtain a consular work visa.

Official Verification

Always verify current requirements through the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or nearest Moroccan embassy, as visa policies can change with diplomatic developments and seasonal adjustments.

Morocco Visa Types and Categories

Morocco offers several visa categories designed to accommodate different travel purposes and durations. Understanding the specific requirements and limitations of each type ensures you select the appropriate visa for your intended stay.

Electronic Visa Categories

The Morocco electronic visa is issued entirely online and serves tourism or business purposes. The eVisa is valid for 180 days from the date of issue, allows single entry, and permits a maximum stay of 30 days. Processing time is 72 hours for standard service or 24 hours for express service.

The Morocco eVisa allows a stay not exceeding 30 days and can be extended for up to 6 months after arrival in Morocco. Three categories of travelers are eligible: specific nationalities approved by Moroccan authorities, foreign nationals holding valid residence permits in certain countries, and those with valid visas to select nations.

Tourist and Visitor Visas

Short-term tourist visas are issued as single or multiple entry, allowing stays ranging between 1 to 90 days. These visas accommodate leisure travel, sightseeing, and visiting friends or family, requiring hotel reservations or invitation letters.

Long-term visitor visas are issued for immigration, education, or work, allowing stays up to a year with validity that cannot exceed one year. Stays longer than one year require applying for a registration card from the General Directorate of National Security.

Business Visa Categories

Business eVisas are single entry documents for short-term engagements. The eVisa is not for employment, and those seeking work must apply for a consular work visa. Business visas serve commercial activities with varying validity periods:

  • Single-entry business visas for specific meetings or conferences
  • Multiple-entry business visas for long-term activities, allowing stays of 1 to 90 days within a validity period of up to 1 year
  • Investment visas for substantial business ventures

Student and Academic Visas

Student visas require acceptance letters from recognized Moroccan institutions and proof of financial support. These visas allow multiple entries and can be extended based on academic program duration. Enrollment certificates from Moroccan public universities or approved private institutions are necessary.

Work and Employment Visas

Work visa processing timelines vary, approximately 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the consulate or embassy. Work visas necessitate employment contracts from Moroccan employers and labor ministry approvals. Sponsorship is required, and employees must remain in approved work locations unless authorized to relocate or change employers.

Transit and Special Categories

Transit visas allow 1 or 2 transits with a maximum 72-hour stay duration each visit. In exceptional cases, travelers whose country of residence does not have a Moroccan diplomatic mission can request the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a visa to be issued at the airport.

Diplomatic and official visas serve government representatives with expedited processing. Family reunion visas enable joining Moroccan residents or citizens, requiring relationship documentation and sponsor guarantees.

Essential Morocco Visa Facts and Processing Information

Processing Times by Visa Type

E-visas process within 72 hours for standard applications or 24 hours for express service. Traditional sticker visas typically require 10 business days but may extend to 30 days depending on individual circumstances. The Morocco Express e-Visa is finalized within 24 hours while the Standard e-Visa requires 72 hours. Processing times may be longer during peak seasons, holidays, or if additional documents are requested by Moroccan authorities.

Visa Costs and Fee Structure

  • Single-entry visa for up to 90 days: 220 MAD (approximately $22 USD)
  • Double-entry visa for up to 90 days: 330 MAD (approximately $33 USD)
  • Transit visa valid up to 72 hours: 170 MAD (approximately $18 USD)
  • E-visa fees vary by nationality and processing speed selected

Application Locations and Methods

Applications for sticker visas are accepted at Moroccan embassies and consulates worldwide. Three categories of foreign nationals are eligible to apply for Morocco e-Visa: foreign countries approved by Moroccan authorities such as Thailand and Israel; foreign nationals who hold a residence permit in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, Norway, or New Zealand valid for 180 days from application date; and foreign nationals with a valid sticker visa to the US, UK, Schengen zone, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand valid for at least 90 days from the e-Visa application date. You can apply for eligible e-visas through the official Moroccan government portal acces-maroc.ma.

Essential Documentation Requirements

  • Valid passport with minimum 6 months validity beyond intended stay
  • Completed visa application form with accurate information
  • Recent color photograph (35x45mm) with light background, no glasses or hats
  • Proof of accommodation such as hotel booking or invitation letter from Moroccan host
  • Confirmed round-trip ticket showing departure within authorized period
  • Bank statements covering 3-6 months or proof of financial means

Payment methods include credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. E-visa fees are non-refundable once validated and paid, even in cases of cancellation. Applications submitted with complete and accurate documentation have higher approval rates.

Step-by-Step Morocco Visa Application Process

Step 1: Determine Your Visa Category

Identify the correct visa type based on your travel purpose. Morocco's e-Visa system, introduced in July 2022, offers single-entry authorization for tourism and business purposes, allowing stays up to 30 days. Verify current visa exemptions as around 65 countries are entitled to visa-free travel to Morocco for short-term stays not exceeding 90 days. If you require a traditional sticker visa for study, work, or long-term stays, you must apply through Moroccan consulates or embassies.

Step 2: Gather Required Documentation

Collect essential documents including:

  • Valid passport with at least one blank page
  • Recent color photograph (35x45mm) with clear facial features, light background, no glasses or hats
  • Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
  • Financial statements demonstrating sufficient funds
  • Supporting document showing valid residence permit or visa (for Category B and C applicants)

Temporary passports are not accepted. Ensure all documents submitted through the e-Visa portal are clear digital copies. For traditional visa applications, documents may need to be translated into Arabic or French by certified translators if originally in other languages.

Step 3: Complete Application Forms

Applications for electronic visas are submitted through the online platform at acces-maroc.ma. Fill out the online form by entering all necessary personal and passport details, travel information, and contact details. For traditional sticker visas, applications are processed through Moroccan consulates or authorized visa application centers. Double-check all information before submission to avoid delays or rejections.

Step 4: Schedule Your Appointment

For e-Visa applications, no in-person appointment is required as the process is completed digitally from application to approval without attending an embassy or consulate. For traditional visa applications, book an appointment at the nearest Moroccan consulate or authorized visa center. Many locations offer online scheduling systems. Arrive punctually with all required documents organized in the specified order.

Step 5: Submit Application and Pay Fees

Cover the visa fees using one of the available online payment methods. Morocco visa fees vary depending on type: a transit visa valid up to 72 hours costs 170 MAD, while a single-entry visa for less than 3 months costs 220 MAD and a double-entry visa costs 330 MAD. For e-Visa applications, payment is made online during the submission process. For traditional applications, payment methods vary by location and typically include cash, money orders, or specific credit cards. Retain all payment receipts for tracking purposes.

Step 6: Biometric Data Collection

For e-Visa applications, you upload digital copies of required documents to the online form, and no biometric data is collected during the process. For traditional visa applications submitted at consulates or visa centers, fingerprints and digital photographs may be required during your in-person appointment.

Step 7: Track and Collect Your Visa

E-Visa processing takes 24 hours (Express) to 72 hours (Standard). After covering the service fee, you receive a confirmation email with your application ID, and your approved e-Visa is delivered via email once Moroccan authorities approve it. It is highly advisable to carry a printed paper copy of your e-Visa PDF to avoid complications at border control or airline check-in. For traditional sticker visas, processing typically takes 10 business days but can take as long as 30 days when additional documents or detailed examinations are necessary. Collect your passport promptly once notification is received, bringing your receipt and identification.

acces-maroc.ma Portal: AEVM and e-Visa Applications

Both the Electronic Travel Authorization (AEVM) and the Morocco e-Visa are applied for exclusively through the official Moroccan government portal acces-maroc.ma. Knowing which authorization applies to your passport — and applying in advance — is essential before travel.

What Is the acces-maroc.ma Portal?

Launched with Morocco's e-Visa system in July 2022, acces-maroc.ma is the single official platform for all online entry authorizations to Morocco. It manages both the AEVM (for certain visa-exempt travelers) and the e-Visa (for travelers who require a visa but qualify to apply online). The entire process is digital; no embassy visit is required for either type.

AEVM (Autorisation Électronique de Voyage au Maroc) Explained

The AEVM is not a visa. It is a mandatory electronic pre-authorization for certain visa-exempt nationalities who must register with Moroccan border authorities before boarding. As of 2026, the AEVM is permanently required for nationals of:

  • Republic of Congo
  • Ghana
  • Guinea
  • Mali
  • Ecuador

Morocco has announced a phased expansion of the AEVM to all visa-exempt nationalities. Planned exceptions include holders of valid Moroccan residence permits, transit passengers, and spouses of Moroccan citizens. Check the current country list at acces-maroc.ma before booking.

How to Apply for an AEVM

Submit the application at acces-maroc.ma at least 96 hours before departure. You need a valid ordinary passport (minimum 90 days remaining validity) and a passport-style photograph. The approved AEVM is delivered by email and must be presented at check-in and at the Moroccan border.

AEVM vs. e-Visa: Key Differences

  • AEVM: for visa-exempt nationals of listed countries. Pre-registers the traveler with Moroccan authorities; does not alter the standard visa-free stay allowance.
  • e-Visa: for nationalities that normally require a visa. Grants single-entry for up to 30 days, valid 180 days from issue. Processing: 72 hours (standard) or 24 hours (express). May be extended inside Morocco for up to six months.

AFCON 2025 Temporary AEVM Extension (expired January 2026)

From September 25, 2025, to January 25, 2026, Morocco temporarily extended the AEVM to citizens of Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Gabon, Niger, Senegal, Togo, and Tunisia for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025). This measure expired January 25, 2026; nationals of those eight countries reverted to standard visa-free entry without an AEVM for ordinary travel.
