Additional Visa Exemptions

Holders of valid visas or residence permits from Canada, the European Union member states, Mexico, or the United States can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days. This exemption also applies to holders of residence permits from El Salvador, Honduras, or Nicaragua, as well as U.S. Green Card or Canadian Permanent Resident Card holders, regardless of nationality.

This exemption does not apply to nationals of Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Cameroon, China, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Macau, Mali, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nepal, Nigeria, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and Yemen, as well as holders of normal passports from Cuba, Haiti, Jordan, Kenya, Pakistan, and Venezuela.

Visa Required

Travelers from China, India, most African and Middle Eastern countries, and other nations not on the visa-exempt list must obtain a visa before arrival. Single-entry tourist visas cost $50 USD and are valid for 90 days from the date of issue, while multiple-entry tourist visas cost $150 USD, and multiple-entry business visas cost $150 USD and are valid for 180 days from the date of issue.

Essential Entry Requirements

  • Passport validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended period of stay or from your entry date
  • At least one blank passport page is required for entry and exit stamps
  • Return ticket: Proof of onward travel required
  • Sufficient funds: Evidence of financial means for your stay
  • Electronic immigration and customs declaration form: All travelers must fill out an online immigration and customs declaration form to enter and exit Guatemala

Special Considerations

Transit passengers staying in the airport international zone typically do not need visas. However, leaving the airport requires meeting standard entry requirements.

Regional agreement: Guatemala participates in the CA-4 Border Control Agreement with El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. A visa issued by one of the four countries is honored by all four countries, and the time period applies to the total time spent in any of the four countries without leaving the CA-4 area. Tourists may travel within any of the CA-4 countries for up to 90 days without completing entry and exit formalities at border immigration checkpoints, with this period beginning at the first point of entry into any of the CA-4 countries, and a 30-day extension can be requested before the 90-day limit expires.

Always verify current requirements through Guatemala's official consular services, as visa policies can change without notice.
