Do Indians Need a Visa for Egypt? (2026 Quick Answer)
Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa for Egypt, and the official e-Visa portal says a visa is required prior to entry. There are three official routes.
- e-Visa: India is on the official eligibility list. As of October 2026, it costs USD 30 for a single entry or USD 65 for multiple entries.
- Visa on arrival: only with a valid and already used US, UK, Schengen, Japanese, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visa.
- Sticker visa: from the Embassy in New Delhi, the Consulate General in Mumbai or an Egyptian mission abroad.
Without one of those seven visas, the e-Visa or a sticker visa is the route.
Egypt e-Visa for Indians - How to Apply
The e-Visa is a tourism visa for single or multiple entries, issued on the Egypt e-Visa Portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, run by the Ministry of Interior. The Egyptian Embassy in Washington calls it the only official link affiliated with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Create and confirm an account, log in and select Apply Now.
- Choose the visa type, fill in the form and pay by Visa card, MasterCard or other debit card.
- After the approval email, download and print the e-Visa and present it to the immigration officer on arrival.
The portal asks for the application at least 7 days before departure and publishes no processing time, so we recommend applying earlier. Fees are non-refundable, incomplete applications are rejected, and each traveller needs their own account (parents can apply for children). An e-Visa is not the final authority to enter Egypt.
The reported travel-agent guarantee notice
According to applicant reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, an Indian applicant found the e-Visa required a guarantee from an authorised Egyptian tourist agent. An Egyptian tour company selling this service reports the same notice (October 2025 post), adding that the agent has to be at the airport.
It is not on the portal's public pages and could not be checked without an account: a report, not an official rule, and about the e-Visa, not the visa on arrival. If it appears, we recommend asking via the portal's help page before paying.
Visa on Arrival With a Valid US, UK or Schengen Visa
Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities says nationals of more than 180 countries can get a tourist visa on arrival with a valid and used visa for the USA, the UK, the Schengen Area, Japan, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. The page does not list those nationalities or define what counts as used. As of October 2026, the fee is USD 30 at the airport bank counter in passport control.
QR visa on arrival at Cairo
Since 1 August 2026, the ministry has piloted a QR visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport, replacing the paper sticker. The code is available through the official portal visaonarrival.gov.eg, a ministry app usable from anywhere and airport self-service machines; paper visas stay on sale for a limited transition period.
- Cairo only, as of 6 October 2026; elsewhere, pay at the bank counter.
- Valid 7 days from issue and can be bought before travel, in flight or on arrival, so we recommend buying it within 7 days of landing.
- USD 36 as of October 2026 (USD 30 plus a USD 6 service charge), by international Visa or Mastercard not issued in Egypt; one code per travel document.
- Non-refundable, even if entry is denied: the code covers payment only, and entry stays with Egyptian border authorities.
US green card holders
According to the Egyptian Embassy in Washington's page for US residents, airport visas need a passport and green card each valid over 6 months and airline confirmation that you can board without a visa, though the embassy advises getting the visa in advance. The ministry mentions only visas, not green cards, so we recommend the e-Visa.
Indians living in the Gulf
Egypt announced in March 2023, as reported by Egyptian media, a visa on arrival for Indian tourists with GCC residence, but the ministry's current visa page does not mention it. According to applicant reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, an Indian UAE resident got one in Cairo with only the Emirates ID checked, one traveller's experience rather than an official rule. We recommend that you confirm with your airline before you fly.
Flying San Francisco to Cairo on a US visa
An Indian with a valid US visa asked on Reddit in late September 2026 whether the visa on arrival works for a San Francisco to Cairo trip. Going by the ministry's wording, yes, if the visa is valid and already used, and no official page we reviewed mentions a guarantee letter for this route. Airlines check documents at boarding, so we recommend the e-Visa or a check with your airline first.
Sticker Visa from the Egyptian Embassy
Egypt's foreign ministry lists two missions in India (updated August 2025, no websites):
- Embassy, New Delhi: 1/50 M, Niti Marg, Chanakyapuri; +91 11 2611 4097; [email protected]
- Consulate General: 101 Benhur Apartments, 32, Narayan Dabholkar Rd, Navshanti Nagar, Malabar Hill, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400006; (+91) 22 2367 6422; [email protected]
Applying through VFS Global in India
As listed by VFS Global (page last updated October 2025), a tourist visa costs INR 2,800 single or INR 6,000 multiple, including an INR 300 Embassy fee, plus an INR 800 VFS fee, all non-refundable; confirm before applying with the centre or the Embassy. Its checklist asks for:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months, plus copies of its first and last pages
- Visa form, two colour photos and a request letter stating the purpose of travel
- A detailed itinerary on an Egyptian travel agent's letterhead, signed and stamped, plus a copy of the agent's national ID
- Confirmed return ticket, hotel booking and 6 months of bank statements stamped by the bank
The Embassy may ask for more. VFS gives indicative times of at least 10 to 12 working days in Delhi and 12 to 15 elsewhere, which the Embassy can change.
Indians living in the UK, US or Saudi Arabia
- London consulate (sections updated 3 July 2024): GBP 33 single or GBP 68 multiple for unlisted nationalities such as India, plus a UK residence permit (BRP or share code) valid at least 6 months from the visa's issue date; collection in 5 to 7 business days. Egypt raised e-Visa and on-arrival fees in 2026, so confirm the current fee.
- Washington embassy (undated page covering DE, FL, GA, MD, NC, SC, VA, DC and WV; other consulates may differ): USD 27 single or USD 62 multiple for non-US passport holders with a green card valid over 6 months; at least 10 business days.
- Jeddah consulate (page last modified December 2024, for Saudi residents generally): passport valid over 6 months, residence permit, recent exit/re-entry visa with at least 6 months of residence left and, for tourism, a chamber-certified employer letter, bank statements, return flight and any hotel booking; it advises applying at least a month ahead.
Fees, Validity and Stay
Official fees as of October 2026:
- e-Visa: USD 30 single entry, USD 65 multiple entry
- Visa on arrival at the airport bank counter: USD 30
- QR visa on arrival, Cairo only: USD 36 (USD 30 plus a USD 6 service charge)
The e-Visa portal does not publish validity or the permitted stay on its public pages, and we found no official stay figure for the visa on arrival. We recommend checking the dates on your e-Visa, or on the visa and entry stamp in your passport.
The only official figures we found cover visas issued by Egypt's Consulate General in London (sections updated July 2024): single entry valid 6 months with a maximum 30-day stay, multiple entry valid 6 months with a collective 90-day stay. They do not apply to the e-Visa or the visa on arrival.
Arrival in Egypt - Documents and Checks
For e-Visa holders, the official portal lists these entry requirements:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date
- e-Visa printout and travel itinerary
- A supporting letter, such as a company or invitation letter for business or family visits
- Hotel bookings or details of places to visit, if travelling as a tourist
Officers can check an e-Visa's validity on their system, and the portal says port authorities may refuse entry without explanation. A QR code can be shown on a phone, but its payment is not refunded if entry is denied.
Egypt announced in January 2026 that it would replace paper landing cards with a digital system.
Recent Changes (2025-2026)
- e-Visa fees, spring 2026: Internet Archive copies of the official e-Visa FAQ show USD 25 single and USD 60 multiple on 12 February 2026, and USD 30 and USD 65 on 29 April 2026, as on the live page. We found no official announcement giving the exact date.
- Visa-on-arrival fee, March 2026: archived copies of the Ministry of Tourism's visa page show USD 25 on 17 February 2026 and USD 30 on 26 March 2026. Egypt's Chamber of Travel and Tourism Companies announced the rise to USD 30 from 1 March 2026, as reported by Masrawy on 22 February 2026; the underlying government decision was not found online.
- QR visa on arrival, August 2026: announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on 30 July 2026 as a Cairo airport pilot from 1 August, running alongside the paper visa.
- Digital landing cards: Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister said on 4 January 2026 that airports would replace paper landing cards with a digital system by the end of January; we found no official confirmation of the rollout.
- Guarantee notice: according to applicant reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, an Indian e-Visa applicant was asked for an authorised Egyptian tourist agent's guarantee; an Egyptian tour company selling this service described it in October 2025. Official public pages omit it.
FAQ
Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Egypt?
Only with a valid and already used US, UK, Schengen, Japanese, Canadian, Australian or New Zealand visa. As of October 2026, it costs USD 30 at the bank counter or USD 36 via the Cairo QR system.
How much is the Egypt e-Visa for Indians?
As of October 2026, USD 30 for a single entry and USD 65 for multiple entries, non-refundable.
How long can I stay in Egypt on an e-Visa?
The portal does not publish this on its public pages, so we recommend checking the dates on your e-Visa.
Do Indians need a guarantee letter from an Egyptian travel agent?
No official public page says so. According to applicant reports on Reddit in late September and early October 2026, an Indian e-Visa applicant was asked for one; VFS Global's sticker-visa checklist wants an itinerary on an Egyptian agent's letterhead.
Can I get a visa on arrival with a US green card?
Possibly. The Egyptian Embassy in Washington lists a green card valid over 6 months for airport visas, but the ministry names only visas, so we recommend the e-Visa.
How long is the Egypt visa-on-arrival QR code valid?
Seven days from the date and time of issue. It is non-refundable and, as of 6 October 2026, works only at Cairo International Airport.
Can Indians use the free Sinai entry stamp at Sharm el-Sheikh?
We do not recommend relying on it. The Ministry of Tourism describes a free stamp of up to 15 days for direct arrivals at Sharm el-Sheikh, Nuweiba or Taba but does not say which nationalities qualify; Egypt's London consulate limits it to UK, EU and US nationals.
Does an e-Visa or QR code guarantee entry to Egypt?
No. An e-Visa is not the final authority to enter, and border officers decide for QR holders too. Visarun helps to prepare applications but cannot promise a visa or entry.
