Kazakhstan ETA mandatory from July 1, 2027 for visa-exempt travellers

Kazakhstan will require an electronic travel authorization (QazETA) for foreign nationals who currently enter visa-free, starting July 1, 2027. Indian passport holders are among those who will need to apply for the free ETA at least 72 hours before arrival.

What is changing

Kazakhstan has set July 1, 2027, as the mandatory date for its electronic travel authorization (QazETA) system under Government Decree No. 890. From that date, travelers without an ETA may be denied entry.

The system will roll out in phases starting November 1, 2026, at selected airports and border crossings, expanding to all borders by March 1, 2027. During the transition period until June 30, 2027, travelers without an ETA will not be refused entry but will be informed of the requirement.

Who needs the ETA

The requirement applies to nationals of visa-exempt countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and many European nations. Indian passport holders are specifically mentioned as covered by the new requirement.

Certain exemptions exist: children under 16, travelers aged 65 or older, current visa holders, residents of Kazakhstan, international transit passengers, diplomats, and crew members on international transport.

ETA details for Indian travellers

The ETA is issued free of charge and valid for 180 calendar days. You must apply at least 72 hours before your planned entry through Kazakhstan's digital platform. The ETA is an additional requirement only - it does not replace a visa or change how long you can stay. You will need to present the same identity document used in your application at the border.

Keep checking official Kazakhstan immigration sources as the July 2027 date approaches for confirmation of which nationalities are covered and any updates to the application process.
