Do Canadian citizens need a visa for the UK?
No. Canadian citizens do not need a visa to visit the UK for up to 6 months, but they must get an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) before they travel. The ETA covers tourism, visiting family and friends, business visits and short-term study. Airlines refuse boarding to visitors without one, and every traveller needs their own ETA, including babies and children. If you have a criminal record or were previously refused entry to the UK, a Standard Visitor visa may be the better route.
How much does a UK ETA cost?
The official fee is £20 per person, and each traveller, including children, needs their own ETA. The fee is the same whether you apply yourself in the official UK ETA app or on gov.uk, and it cannot be refunded after you apply. If you use Visarun, our service fee for preparing, checking and submitting the application is separate from the official fee and is shown in the pricing section before you pay.
How long does it take to get a UK ETA?
You will usually get a decision by email within a day, but it can take up to 3 working days. You must wait until you get the email confirming your ETA before you travel, so it is safest to apply at least 3 working days before your trip. Applying through a service such as Visarun does not speed up the Home Office decision. What we add is a prepared, checked application that matches your passport.
How long is a UK ETA valid?
A UK ETA is valid for 2 years or until the passport you applied with expires, whichever comes first. You can travel to the UK as many times as you want in that period and stay up to 6 months on each visit. The ETA is linked to one passport, so a new passport needs a new ETA. It also covers Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. If you only change planes and stay airside without passing through UK border control, you do not need an ETA.
