US Visa FAQ for Chinese passport holders

Do Chinese citizens need a visa for the USA?
Yes. Chinese citizens need a B1/B2 visitor visa for tourism or business trips to the USA, because ESTA under the Visa Waiver Program is not available to them. You fill in Form DS-160 online, pay the USD 185 application fee and attend an in-person interview at a US embassy or consulate in your country of nationality or residence. Applying in another country makes it harder to qualify, and the fee is not refunded or transferred. If the visa is issued, the CBP officer at the border decides how long you can stay. Under a current CDC order, travellers who are not US citizens and were in the DRC, Uganda or South Sudan in the previous 21 days cannot enter the USA.
How much does a US visitor visa cost?
The official application fee for a B1/B2 visa is USD 185, and it is not refunded if the visa is refused. Some nationalities also pay a visa issuance fee after approval, under the State Department reciprocity schedule. At selected embassies an optional USD 750 fee for an expedited interview appointment is offered until 31 December 2026. A USD 250 Visa Integrity Fee was enacted in 2025, but it is not being charged yet. Visarun's service fee is separate and shown in the pricing section.
How long does it take to get a US visitor visa?
Most of the time goes on waiting for an interview appointment, and that wait differs by embassy. In June 2026 the State Department put the worldwide median at about 30 days, with waits of more than 12 months at some posts. After the interview, some applications need extra administrative processing. Visarun cannot shorten embassy waiting times, but we make sure your DS-160 and documents are ready when your appointment comes.
How long can Chinese citizens stay in the USA?
The CBP officer at the port of entry decides: B-2 visitors issued an I-94 are admitted for at least 6 months, and any B admission is at most 1 year. If you hold a 10-year B1/B2 visa in a People's Republic of China passport, you must also enrol in EVUS before you travel and update it every 2 years, or sooner if you get a new passport or visa. The EVUS fee is USD 30.75, and USD 31.75 from 16 October 2026.
What do Chinese citizens need for the US visa interview?
Bring your passport, valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay unless an agreement with your country exempts you, plus the DS-160 confirmation page and the fee receipt. You qualify on your ties to your home country, so an invitation letter or affidavit of support is not required. Nearly every applicant is interviewed in person, including children under 14 and adults over 79. Only some people renewing a recently expired B1/B2 visa may be offered a waiver.
