Japan eVISA FAQ for Chinese passport holders

Do Chinese citizens need a visa for Japan?
Yes. Chinese citizens need a visa for Japan. If you live in China, the single-entry tourist visa is issued as a JAPAN eVISA with a stay of 15 or 30 days, and the application goes through a travel agency designated by the Embassy of Japan in China, as Japan requires. Other purposes and multiple-entry visas are issued as visa stickers through accredited agencies. Holders of Hong Kong SAR or Macao SAR passports are visa-exempt for up to 90 days.
How much does the Japan eVISA cost?
From 1 July 2026 the Embassy of Japan in China charges 715 CNY for a single-entry visa and 1,430 CNY for a double or multiple-entry visa. The designated travel agency adds its own fee, and Visarun's service fee for preparing and checking your application is separate and shown in the pricing section. Visa fees changed on 1 July 2026, so older quotes are out of date.
How long does the Japan eVISA take?
The standard processing time set by Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is 5 working days from the day after the Japanese mission accepts the application, when there is no problem with it. If the case has to be referred to the Ministry in Tokyo, it can take more than a month. Lodge your application in good time before your trip, as visas are not issued on arrival or inside Japan.
How long can Chinese citizens stay in Japan on an eVISA?
15 or 30 days on a single entry: for Chinese citizens living in China, the tourist eVISA is issued with one of these two periods of stay. It is valid for 3 months from the day after issuance, so you must enter Japan within that time. There is no sticker in your passport. At check-in you show the Visa Issuance Notice online on your phone or tablet; PDFs, screenshots and printouts are not accepted.
What do I need for the Japan eVISA?
An ordinary passport, residence in China and a tourist trip by air or by scheduled ferry, for example on the Shanghai route. Your documents are lodged through a travel agency designated by the Embassy of Japan in China, and we check your file before it goes there. On arrival in Japan, fingerprints and a face photo are taken unless you are exempt by law, and you submit the arrival card (ED card), which you can register on Visit Japan Web.
