Japan Visa FAQ for Filipino passport holders

Do Filipino citizens need a visa for Japan?
Yes. Filipino citizens need a visa for any short stay in Japan, whether for tourism, business or visiting relatives or friends. In the Philippines you apply through the Japan Visa Center, run by VFS since April 2025, and the temporary visitor visa for stays of up to 90 days is free. Members of package tours run by registered travel agencies can instead get a 15-day single-entry eVISA, also lodged through the Visa Center.
Is there a visa fee for Filipino citizens?
No. The temporary visitor visa for stays of up to 90 days remains free of charge for Filipino citizens; fees apply to applications with a Certificate of Eligibility. Other nationalities pay about 15,000 yen for a single-entry visa from 1 July 2026. An accredited agency or visa centre charges its own handling fee. Visarun's service fee for preparing and checking your application is separate and shown in the pricing section.
How long does a Japan visa take?
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines says that, because of the number of applications, a tourist visa may take several weeks to process. Japan's general standard is 5 working days when there is no problem, so apply well before your trip. If your application is refused, a new application for the same purpose is not accepted for 6 months.
How long can Filipino citizens stay in Japan with a visa?
A short-term stay visa allows 15, 30 or 90 days per entry, as written on the visa, for tourism, business, conferences or visiting relatives or friends, with no paid activity. A single-entry visa is valid for 3 months from the day after issuance, so you must enter Japan within that time. Multiple-entry visas, valid for 1 to 5 years, can be issued to business travellers and others. A visa does not guarantee entry: the immigration inspector decides on arrival.
What do I need to apply for a Japan visa?
A passport that is valid for your stay and has free visa pages; a mission may refuse to accept an application if either is insufficient. The other documents depend on your nationality and the mission, so follow the list of the embassy, consulate or visa centre that takes your application. You must apply in your country of nationality or residence, not at a travel destination. On arrival in Japan, fingerprints and a face photo are taken unless you are exempt by law, and you submit the arrival card (ED card), which you can register on Visit Japan Web.
