Who Can Sponsor - Salary and Profession Rules

The sponsor is a relative with official residency in Kuwait. At the platform launch on 16 July 2025, Kuwait Times reported that the family visit visa goes only through such a relative and is open to all nationalities.

No published salary threshold

In August 2025 Col. Abdulaziz Al-Kandari of the ministry's electronic services said family visit visas were open to every expat with a valid residence permit, which abolished the salary condition. Kuwait Times and Gulf News reported this on 13 August 2025, and no official ministry text has been found.

The KD 400 and KD 800 figures still quoted online are history. According to Kuwait Times, from 7 February 2024 until August 2025 a sponsor needed KD 400 a month for close family and KD 800 for other relatives.

KD 800 is also the salary floor for family residence sponsorship, which brings a spouse and children to live in Kuwait, under Article 29 of Ministerial Resolution 957/2019, as Gulf News reported in July 2024. It is not a visit visa rule.

Profession and the portal check

The August 2025 statements, as reported by Kuwait Times, link the visit visa to a valid residence permit and set no profession list for sponsors. Still, the platform runs its own sponsor check, and its criteria are not published.

Which Relatives Qualify

The form asks the sponsor to pick the relation: Father, Mother, Spouse, Son / Daughter or Others. These are form labels, not an eligibility list, and a relative entered under Others is checked by the system.

In August 2025 the ministry said the visa now reaches fourth-degree blood relatives and third-degree relatives by marriage, as reported by Kuwait Times and Gulf News. There is no official list of who counts, so a sibling, cousin or in-law may or may not pass.

The platform also states "Only married individuals are allowed to add their family members". An unmarried sponsor cannot add a spouse or children to the account.

How to Apply on the Kuwait Visa Platform

A ministry official said in August 2025, as reported by Kuwait Times, that expats can apply on the Kuwait Visa platform or its app. We found no official source naming Sahel as a filing channel for this visa.

• Register with Kuwait Mobile ID and link the Civil ID in your profile.
• Check that your profile is approved, not under verification or suspended.
• Start a family visit request and choose the relation.
• Pick 1, 2 or 3 months. These are the options in the platform's form code as read in October 2026, and the server may limit them.
• Choose the accommodation, where "With the Sponsor" is an option.
• Upload the documents and submit.

Documents

The platform lists these and may ask for more depending on the visa type:

• Visitor's passport valid for at least 6 months
• A recent passport-style photo on a white background
• A confirmed round-trip ticket
• The visitor's Civil ID, jpeg or jpg up to 2 MB, if they have been in Kuwait before
• Birth, marriage or relation certificate

The relationship document goes in as one PDF: the original plus an Arabic translation from a certified translation office in Kuwait. File limits of 2 MB or 10 MB apply. The portal says nothing about attestation.

Kuwait Times reported in August 2025 that the national-carrier condition was cancelled, so any airline can be used. The platform publishes no processing time for family visits.

Fees, Validity and Overstay Rules

Fee

Kuwait Times and Gulf News reported that from 23 December 2025 all visit visas, family included, cost KD 10 per month under Ministerial Decision No. 2249/2025. The portal's older table still shows 3 KWD, so as of October 2026 the amount shown at payment is the one to rely on.

The fee is collected only if the application is accepted, and collected amounts are non-refundable. An extension, where allowed, costs the same fee again according to the portal's fee table.

Health insurance

A Health Ministry decision reported by Kuwait Times in December 2025 requires visit visa holders to buy insurance from approved local private insurers from 23 December 2025. The sponsor or the visitor pays. We found no published price for family visits. A KWD 5 insurance fee reported by EY in January 2026 applies to entry and transit visas, not family visits.

Validity

• The sponsor chooses 1, 2 or 3 months on the form.
• Amiri Decree 114/2024 caps a visit at three months.
• The portal says the entry permit is valid for 30 days from issue.
• The stay printed on the visa is what counts.
• Multiple entry (three months to a year, one month per stay) was announced in August 2025, according to Kuwait Times, and is not guaranteed.
• Work is not allowed, and the visitor leaves when the visit ends.

Overstay

The portal lists 10 KWD per day and warns of a possible future entry ban. Gulf News reported in January 2025 that the residency law caps the visitor fine at KD 2,000. Kuwait Times mentioned new overstay schedules in November 2025 without amounts, so we recommend rechecking before travel.

The law also makes the breadwinner, or anyone who houses a foreigner, pay the deportation costs.

Portal Errors and Rejected Applications

The platform's own messages, quoted below, show where an application is stuck, though not why.

• "Your sponsor is not eligible for family visa sponsorship": the sponsor check failed.
• "Your sponsor is not eligible to sponsor your relationship": this relation was not accepted.
• "Your Civil ID Number is not registered in Public Authority for Civil Information System": the Civil ID is missing from PACI records.
• "There is an active request for the same CivilId": an earlier request is still open.
• "Your profile has been temporarily suspended by the authorities": new requests stay blocked.
• "Passport Expiry date is Less than 6 months": the visitor needs a passport valid for at least 6 months.

For "Technical error occurred, please try again later", the platform's FAQ points to its technical support.

According to applicant reports on Reddit in October 2026, residents with approved profiles who had used the visa before hit an error on 25 October when applying again. No official notice explains it, so the cause is unknown.

After a rejection, the platform says it gives the reason where possible and allows a new application. Kuwaiti authorities can also reject or cancel a visa at any time, even after issuance, without giving reasons.

Alternatives - Tourist eVisa and GCC Resident Visas

The portal's nationality list for Kuwait's tourist e-visa has 54 countries. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Philippines and Egypt are not on it, so for most relatives on these passports living outside the GCC the family visit visa is the usual online route.

For listed nationalities, the portal describes a single-entry e-visa valid one month from issue, a stay of up to three months and 1 to 2 business days of processing. The e-visa checker can stop an application on nationality, occupation or relation and refer the applicant to a Kuwaiti embassy.

Relatives living in another GCC state

• GCC-resident e-visa: the portal lists eligible professions and asks for a residence copy showing the profession, valid for 6 months from entry.
• Visa on arrival: since 10 August 2025, foreign residents of other GCC states with residence valid for at least six months can get a 90-day tourist visa on arrival, according to the law firm EIG.

Beware of Sellers Offering Visit Visas

A Reddit post in October 2026 offered a "1 month visit visa" to anyone interested. Offers like this are a warning sign, not a route.

• The platform says applications are submitted through the official website only, for personal, non-commercial use and without false information.
• Business visit visas go through local companies and hotels, according to Kuwait Times in July 2025, not through individual sellers.
• The residency law has a chapter of penalties for residency trafficking.

Gulf News reported in February 2026 that India's CBI raided 35 locations in Delhi and nine other states over fake Kuwait e-visas sold through a look-alike website.
