Which Sri Lanka ETA do you need?

Free tourist ETA

Free on eta.gov.lk for tourism, family visits and medical treatment. It allows two entries within 30 days and is usually decided within 48 hours. Apply before you travel.

Business ETA

Costs USD 55 for 30 days. The free scheme covers tourist trips only. It is issued by Sri Lanka missions abroad and the Head Office in Battaramulla.

Transit ETA

Free, for up to 2 days. Documentary proof of onward travel is needed.

Visa extension

Stays beyond 30 days need a paid extension. Apply online for up to 6 months, or at the Head Office. The maximum is 270 days from arrival.

Do Singaporean citizens need a visa for Sri Lanka?

Yes. Singaporean citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival, issued free of charge under Sri Lanka's reciprocal agreements. Some older official pages still describe Singaporean citizens as exempt, but the immigration notice effective 25 May 2026 requires all foreign nationals, Singaporean citizens included, to obtain an ETA before arrival. You can apply yourself on eta.gov.lk, the official site, or have Visarun prepare and file it. An ETA on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport is only a limited facility.

How much does the Sri Lanka ETA cost for Singaporean citizens?

There is no government fee. Under the reciprocal and bilateral agreements restated in the Department of Immigration and Emigration notice effective 25 May 2026, the ETA for Singaporean citizens is processed free of charge. Visarun charges only its service fee for preparing, checking and filing your application on eta.gov.lk. Make sure every detail matches your passport: if you enter on a different passport from the one used for the ETA, the visa has to be paid for on arrival.

How long does it take to get a Sri Lanka ETA?

The acknowledgement from eta.gov.lk says you will receive a response within 48 hours of submission. Visarun checks your details against your passport before filing, because the passport number, nationality and date of birth must match the passport you travel on. Apply before your trip: an ETA cannot be applied for while you are already in Sri Lanka, and a new ETA cannot be issued on the same passport while a valid one exists. Applications lodged at a Sri Lanka overseas mission are processed within 3 business days.

How long can Singaporean citizens stay in Sri Lanka with the ETA?

Singaporean citizens can stay up to 30 days from the date of arrival, and double entry is allowed within 30 days of the first arrival. Enter within three months of the ETA being issued; the approval notice prints the exact deadline. If you need more time, apply for an extension before your visa expires, online at eservices.immigration.gov.lk or at the Head Office in Battaramulla. Overstaying more than 7 days brings a USD 250 penalty, and more than 14 days USD 500, plus the applicable visa fee.

What do Singaporean travelers need for the ETA and at the border?

The online ETA needs no uploaded documents or photo, only exact details: your passport number, nationality and date of birth must match your passport, and you must enter on that same passport, or you will have to pay for the visa on arrival. When you arrive, have a passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, a confirmed return ticket, enough funds for your stay and your ETA approval notice. The tourist ETA covers holidays, visits to friends and relatives, medical or Ayurveda treatment and sports or cultural events, not work or business.
