Vietnam Visa FAQ for Singaporean passport holders

Do Singaporean citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
No, not for stays of up to 30 days. Singaporean citizens holding an ordinary passport can enter Vietnam visa-free under a bilateral arrangement, as long as the passport is valid for at least 6 months, you hold a return or onward ticket and you have sufficient funds for your stay. It does not cover entry to work for income. You present your passport at the border; there is nothing to apply for in advance.
Is there a cost or waiting time for visa-free entry?
No. Visa-free entry under the agreement costs nothing and has no application to process, so there is nothing to wait for before you travel. You only need an e-visa if your plans go beyond the agreement. The e-visa is applied for online at evisa.gov.vn while you are outside Vietnam and is usually processed within 3 working days, or within 3 to 15 working days if further verification is needed.
How long can Singaporean citizens stay in Vietnam without a visa?
Up to 30 days per visit under the agreement. If you know you will need more time, apply for a visa before you travel, for example an e-visa valid for up to 90 days. E-visa applications are only accepted from people who are outside Vietnam, so you cannot apply for one once you have arrived.
What do I need to enter Vietnam visa-free?
You need an ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months, a return ticket or a ticket on to another country, sufficient funds for your stay, and whatever your next country requires for entry, including a visa where one is needed. No Vietnamese visa or application form is needed. During your stay, your temporary residence is declared through your hotel or other accommodation provider.
When do I need a Vietnam e-visa instead?
You need a visa if you plan to stay longer than 30 days or if you are coming to work for income, which the exemption does not cover. The e-visa is the online option: it is valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry, and you apply at evisa.gov.vn while you are outside Vietnam. Working in Vietnam also requires a work permit or a confirmation of exemption from it.
