Vietnam Visa FAQ for Filipino passport holders

Do Filipino citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
No, not for stays of up to 21 days. Filipino citizens holding an ordinary passport can enter Vietnam visa-free under a bilateral arrangement between the two countries. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months, and you need a return air ticket or a ticket on to another country. You present your passport at the border; there is nothing to apply for in advance. For a longer stay, you need a visa, for example an e-visa.
Is there a cost or waiting time for visa-free entry?
No. Visa-free entry under the agreement costs nothing and has no application to process, so there is nothing to wait for before you travel. You only need an e-visa if your plans go beyond the agreement. The e-visa is applied for online at evisa.gov.vn while you are outside Vietnam and is usually processed within 3 working days, or within 3 to 15 working days if further verification is needed.
How long can Filipino citizens stay in Vietnam without a visa?
Up to 21 days per visit under the agreement. If you know you will need more time, apply for a visa before you travel, for example an e-visa valid for up to 90 days. E-visa applications are only accepted from people who are outside Vietnam, so you cannot apply for one once you have arrived.
What do I need to enter Vietnam visa-free?
You need an ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months and a return air ticket or a ticket on to another country; both are conditions of the agreement. No visa or application form is needed. During your stay, your temporary residence is declared through your hotel or other accommodation provider.
When do I need a Vietnam e-visa instead?
You need a visa if you plan to stay longer than 21 days, or if you cannot meet the conditions of the exemption, such as holding a return or onward air ticket. The e-visa is the online option: it is valid for up to 90 days with single or multiple entry, and you apply at evisa.gov.vn while you are outside Vietnam. E-visa holders must enter and leave through international border gates designated by the government.
