Thailand Visa FAQ for Chinese passport holders

Do Chinese citizens need a visa for Thailand?
No, not for stays of up to 30 days. Chinese citizens holding an ordinary passport can enter Thailand visa-free under the bilateral agreement in force since 1 March 2024. Each stay can last up to 30 days, with no more than 90 days in total in any 180-day period. There is no visa application, but you must fill in the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival. The earlier 60-day rule no longer applies.
Is there a cost or waiting time for visa-free entry?
No. Visa-free entry under the agreement costs nothing and there is no application to process. The only online step is the TDAC, which is free on the official site tdac.immigration.go.th and is completed within 3 days before arrival. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days, or to work, study or carry out media activities, apply for the matching visa at thaievisa.go.th before you travel.
How long can Chinese citizens stay in Thailand without a visa?
Up to 30 days per stay, and no more than 90 days in total in any 180-day period, so count all your recent visits before you book. If one trip will last longer than 30 days, get a visa first, for example the Tourist Visa (TR), which allows up to 60 days per entry and is applied for online at thaievisa.go.th while you are outside Thailand.
What do I need to enter Thailand visa-free?
Your ordinary passport; Thailand's foreign ministry advises at least 6 months of validity and a return ticket. Carry funds for your stay: Thai embassy guidance for visa-exempt tourists is 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family in cash or equivalent. The trip must not be for residence, employment, study, media work or other activities that need prior approval. Complete the free TDAC within 3 days before arrival.
What changed for Thailand visa-free entry in 2026?
On 15 September 2026 Thailand revoked its 60-day visa exemption scheme and moved to one visa exemption arrangement per country. Chinese passports were also covered by the 60-day scheme until 14 September 2026; now only the bilateral agreement applies, with up to 30 days per stay and 90 days in any 180-day period. Visitors admitted before 15 September 2026 may stay until the date stamped in their passport.
