Visitor visa (600), Tourist stream

Do Brazilian citizens need a visa for Australia?

Yes, Brazilian citizens need a visa before travelling to Australia. For tourism or a visit to family or friends, the visa is the Visitor visa (subclass 600) in the Tourist stream, applied for online in ImmiAccount. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided, and you should not travel until you are told in writing that it has been granted. The visa does not allow work, but study or training of up to 3 months is permitted.

How much does the Australia Visitor visa cost?

The official base application charge for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) Tourist stream is AUD250 per applicant applying from outside Australia, in effect from 1 July 2026. The charge is set by the date the Department receives the application, and processing starts only once it is paid. Other costs may apply, such as a card or PayPal surcharge, health checks, police certificates and the service fee at a biometrics collection centre. Each person, including family members listed on your passport, needs their own application.

How long does the Australia Visitor visa take?

The Department of Home Affairs processing guide for the Tourist stream shows 25% of applications decided in 7 days, 50% in 21 days, 75% in 26 days and 90% in 33 days. These figures cover all nationalities and are a guide only, not a guarantee. Apply well ahead of your trip and do not travel until you are told in writing that the visa is granted. We lodge your application with your documents attached and keep you updated until the decision.

How long can I stay in Australia on a Visitor visa?

The Department generally grants a stay of up to 3 months per visit, and up to 12 months in certain circumstances. The exact stay, the validity of the visa and whether it allows single or multiple entry are decided case by case and shown in your grant letter. Parents or step-parents of Australian citizens or permanent residents may get a visa valid for more than 12 months, but with no more than 12 months in Australia in any 18-month period. The visa cannot be extended, and a No Further Stay condition (8503) may be attached.

You need a valid passport and evidence that you are a genuine visitor: enough money for your stay and to leave, such as 3 months of bank statements or pay slips, your travel plans and your reasons to return home. An invitation letter from family or friends in Australia can help. Applicants under 18 need consent from each parent or guardian not travelling with them. Biometrics are needed only if the Department asks, at a VFS Global collection centre or in the Australian Immi App, and health examinations or police certificates may also be requested.
